Why I have decided to join the John McCain team

I posted but decided to remove my post. It wasn't much anyway. Danny, I was just passing through and it warmed my heart to see you still trying and caring. I appreciate your efforts to strike a meaningful conversation with a specific group of people whose opinion you value, rather than the general BF forum. I just appreciate the intent, is all. You're a good man. I think the subject was treated very respectfully.

take care,
munk

So far it has been a very respectable thread, guys. I really appreciate the gentle nudges from Esav. He's right, there is a political forum for such discussion which I will gladly send this thread to if A) I am instructed to do so by a higher up or B) it gets overly ugly and uncharacteristic of the behavior we see her in the Cantina. Ted and I just work here, folks. We work for you guys, but we also have to follow the rules and direction of the super mods.

Basically, I don't know what to do with this thread. The polarized society that we live in makes such threads a little worrisome regarding a moderation standpoint. We've all dealt with that for the last 8 or so years. I would like to think that now that there is a new cycle of things happening and our political landscape changing by the will of populous, we can put all the venom behind us as a collective people and be rational for the first time in a dog's age.

Uncle Bill wanted this to be "our" forum. He wanted the Cantina to be a place where friends, brothers, and sisters could come together to talk amongst ourselves and discuss things as peers. I appreciate what Danny is trying to do with this thread.

Basically, until I hear otherwise from Ted or Esav or Cougar or anyone else in red or blue, continue your discussion. Just, please, for the sake of what Uncle Bill wanted this to be, keep it civil. No snarking remarks from either side. The Cantina is not about suppressing speech or editing posts or locking threads. However, we are in Spark's house and must abide by his rules. Be kind and gentle with one another, and maybe this thread can stay here among friends and not dumped into the bile pit that the Political forum can become at times. Disagree to holy hell, but remember that we are all friends here.

Okie Dokie?

As long as it remains civil I would like it to remain here. It's posts like this that brought me to the HI forum in the first place. I view the Cantina as a virtual Cantina and the topic of conversation is as wide open as a real world one would be. There was an attempt awhile back to control the topics and that seemed to stifle participation in the Cantina. I saw a lot of old friends move on. I'd prefer to not be heavy handed in my moderation and keep everything relatively wide open(with in reason, of course)

I also would like to than Danny for the post.

BTW - Danny I stumbled across photos of you and I throwing shuriken on a website somewhere. I was looking for bo shuriken makers and found them. Kinda surprised me to see ME.:D

My opinion, McCain is a douche bag, just like Bush, Ron Paul is the way to go to get this country back on track. Ron Paul makes REAL SENSE.

The problem is people bring discussions here precisely because they want THIS group of persons to speak with. They don't want the larger, often more abusive general population. (take a look at the political forum) Initially when the HI forum was split the admonishment from Sparks was knife discussion on main HI forum, everything else in Cantina. Nothing else. Then mods had their own interpretations. And BF supermods reversed years of HI forum tradition by further restrictions on discussion, for instance taking knife reviews to the BF knife review area. I'm merely observing, you understand.

Anyway, the old forum is gone, and life changes. It can't be what it was because the rules have changed. Technically, there are probably many threads in the Cantina that could be moved to the larger forum subcategories. I'm not sure what that leaves for the Cantina. Prayer threads and 'what I bought today' threads, probably. Maybe not even that. There's an outdoors type forum here, right? Hunting stuff? Firearms? Knife review. New equipment. Politics. You name it.

Anyway, I was just passing through and was struck by Danny's diplomacy in handling this topic. I thought everybody did good. There were no personal attacks or putdowns.

I think HI forumites are gifted with the two mods you have today.

I've always thought the idea of the old forum was cool. Everything under one roof.

It is hard to get people to post stuff when you start a forum that way. But once you get a group of folks who actually know each other it's probably the best way.

I just am sad to see when a political thread brings in lurkers that don't understand the Cantina culture. Regulars here would keep it civil. :(

If I am being called a lurker, I will not post in or support the cantina. If you guys expect everyone to be "perfect" you are fooling yourselves. I edited a post, and a mod wiped it out, that is a slap in the face to me. Cantina "culture" apparently does not mean come as you are, but be a kiss butt wussy and don't under any circumstances offend anyone for any reason, that is the slant I am getting.

Original,

I feel you are holding back to be nice. Tell us your real feelings.;)

Hollowdweller, are you just being a smar-tazz??

Why don't you tell us your real feelings.??

Keith, this is a knife forum. Of course weapons policy is a high priority here. Most Americans don't pay perhaps enough attention to the Bill of Rights. You cannot judge our overall society by what you read here.

Not even by what you read on the toilet paper being handed around now.

That is true, but it is neat to hear what other people in other countries say.

A guest in a house should attend to the customs and manners of the host.

What Munk, HD, and Kis said.

I was new once. I tried to tread lightly for a while.

It worked.

:)

Now, the good folks here put up with all kinds of stuff from me!

:D

Tom

PS The Cantina lives on. Trust me...

Kismet, I always go with the flow, but I won't be led by the nose.

Somewhere this thread got derailed. I think it was when my free speech was attacked.

This thread is not worth anyones time.

Say what? I didn't edit any posts and I haven't seen any posts deleted. BF frowns on deleting posts. Was it in this thread? Feel free to email me if you don't want to keep this going in the thread.

I always find it interesting how Americans value their 2nd amendment so much, It is an issue here, but its way down the list!

Not for me.
I voted Conservative because "Gun" wasn't on the ballot.
Of course, all 3 of our parties suck(so do the PQ, which sorta makes it 4, kinda:D), so it was an easy choice.

I never intended a "political" discussion. It was more of a discussion about what is important to me that goes beyond men and political parties.
I suppose one could say that the NRA is a political party.
Please know that I didn't mean to offend anyone.

Me-109 or Spitfire? LOL!!! If you want more of the same---vote McCain.
VVRROOOOM!!!

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama complained about:" bitter working class voters who "cling to guns or religion..."

The McCain train has punched my ticket and I aint gettin off.
