..... I have spent several months in the US over the years, one of the single common issues I have had was ordering a "coke" !!!!!! It happened in LA, NYC, Miami, Atlanta, Sisters (OR), Canada and Albuquerque that I can recall...!!!! I ask for a coke.... and just get a blank stare back... my favourite exchange (with friends present) was in Canada (we drove up from Rochester for the night) was "I will have a coke please....*blank look*....sorry sir....I would like a coke with that please.... *another blank look* (friends from Rochester laughing now) ....ummm.... a "Pepsi" perhaps.... Oh....sorry sir....we don't have Pepsi but we have "COKE" .... well I will have that then thanks".... in Sisters I was with a couple of guys in a bar (and I had explained this issue to them - they didn't think I had a speech impediment BTW) and ordered a "coke".... "I beg your pardon sir" ... a coke please.... "sorry sir did you say a "COYOTE"... " (yes the two guys I was with with about wetting themselves now) ....I said "nope...how about a beer then....any beer"....Wow, the Aussies are all gaining up on me! Maybe you should call the shop for an accent war. We can laugh at each other over the way it sounds when we say certain words lol.
