I was just wondering why there are so little threads wrote on here about Cold Steel Knives.I think they are nice knives for the price.Maybe there not as good as my Busse knives but I think they are a good bang for the buck.So why don't you guys like Cold Steel knives?

The Cold Steel knives run from very overpriced good knives to cheap low quality knives. In the middle are some good quality, and well priced users. CS also makes things no one else does e.g. swords, spears blowguns, war hammers.
Most of the ill feeling towards CS on this board is a reflection of a personal dislike of Lynn Thompson, CS's owner and Billy May's marketing style, and a perception of unethical business practices regarding royalty payments and copying of other's designs. If you search, you will find enough reading to keep you busy for several days.

I've been a member here for less than a week and have seen many discussions about Cold Steel here. I was surprised to see so many threads about them since I've rarely heard anything good about their products over the years.

I believe there are still ppl who like CS knives, I think there 2010 products are all good. I don't understand why ppl don't like the way they market their knives, same things happen in the automobile industry and electric products all the time, why it's so uncool for knife industry...

Forum search is available for non-paying members as well.

Cold steel also doesn't offer knives in "premium" steels. Some of their knives also are a poor value when compared to similar models from other manufacturers.

Some of us would rather have people see knives as tools and commonplace, non-threatening parts of normal life rather than emphasize how much meat you can cut, in a clear reference to usage on a human. Some of us would prefer that someone who doesn't fit an easy caricature that detractors of knives would like to say all of us resemble.

Also, rather elaborate claims on their part concerning the performance of their knives:

"Sharpest factory edges in the industry"
"_______ will outperform any competitors factory knife and 99% of hand forged knives"

...and the list goes on. Specious, exaggerated, unsupportable claims made to pull in the ignorant. The fact that it happens in other industries doesn't make it any less crappy as a business model. Tends to put forth the impression that your products can't speak for themselves.

They've had some neat things over the years, and the quality is usually at least decent, but they'd have more fans here if they'd grow up a bit.

To be fair, searching for anything on BF with the word "steel" in it isn't much better than searching for the word "the".

THIS is a much easier way to search bladeforums threads...

Cold Steel knives can generally turn into a very heated topic with people feeling strongly for or against the company for many reasons. Read through some of the threads if you'd like, but more important is to come to your own conclusions about the company and their knives.

I still have love for CS. My strongest tightest folders are a CS Spartan and a custom version of the Espada. Strange that a $60 knife locks as tight as a $680 custom Demko? I'll never get rid of either.

People either seem to love or hate CS. I think my American Lawman is a fantastic knife. CS beginning to use the Demko Tri Ad lock was a very good move on their part.

Lot's of people don't like CS simply because their videos are so over the top. I think they're funny.

It isn't like anyone from CS claimed to be Special Forces when they weren't or anythi.....oops, sorry....

Most folks on this board have a hard-on (in a negative way, lol) for LT/Cold Steel for marketing practices over tools that do not normally live up to the hype.

I have to agree with the poster above who stated the 2010 models using the Triad Lock are generally outstanding at their particular price point. I love my Lawman.

CS is just one of those companies that can polarizing...or I should say their spokesman/owner.

The company uses unethical practices and steels knife designs from makers without paying or asking.

Oh, and Lynn is a douchabeg

Ya, ya, ya, it has all been said before and still remains the same uneducated tripe that it has always been.
