Why it it so warm lately?

Probably we now see how human induced pollution influenced nature/weather (it is said there is cca 30 - 50 years response time).

E.g. past year we (Czech Republic) experienced probably longest and coldest winter (2005-2006) in several decades, we had temperatures under -30 degrees of Celsius (-22F) in Spring, in June it was around 10C (50F), during summer temperature rocketed up to 40C (104F) and 06's winter was almost all time over zero (32F).

It seems we will have lots of fun with weather in upcoming years. Good luck everyone.

Are you guys nuts? Warmer?

We've had more snow and blizzard conditions than we've ever had in an entire winter. Early snows that lasted, back-to-back blizzards that dumped 2' of snow each, and more storms predicted.

We generally have a large snowstorm or two each year, but not until March or April. This time last year I was shopping for a convertible and riding my motorcycle (occationally).

Moisture is NOT temperature!
All that snow in the west is from the evaporating Pacific ocean!
No one is complaining of frigid temperatures.

No one is complaining of frigid temperatures.

Read the last post, from the Czech Republic. Compare to news from Australia. Note both are complaining about frigid temperatures.

It is not about any one part of the planet without reference to the rest.

There's been a study finding that since 1993, all scientific studies in the serious mags have affirmed global warming.
Only in certain parts of the American media landscape, financial and political interests have given a different impression. E.g., that laugh of a misnomer, the Coalition for Climate... paid by the oil industry that's also paid the present administration into being elected, to swamp the propaganda machine with quibblings and untruths and obfuscations, just like with WMDs.
Use good sources, and there's no question why the ice caps melt, hurricanes abound, or "why it is so warm lately", lamely put.

All of the climatology I have ever seen from the Global Warming camp discounts the temp proxies and "anecdotes" that support the contention that there was a pre-industrial "Medieval Warm Period," saying such evidence is spotty, regional, or unreliable that the past period in question was as warm as the temps of today.

That said, they measure their "hockey stick" rise in average global temps from the end of a period called "The Little Ice Age," that fortuitously, ended right about the time that industrialization ramped up from insignificance.

My only question related to any of this for the Global Warming true believers is this one: If paleoclimatology is so regionalized and suspect as an accurate indicator of past global temps, how in the world did anyone calculate a mean temp, the deviation from which positively indicates "global warming" that is outside of a normative temp range?

"The Little Ice Age," that fortuitously, ended right about the time that industrialization ramped up from insignificance.

The end of the Little Ice Age would have allowed an increase in agriculture that fueled the population rise that fed into industrialization.

The Earth seems to be warming today, which couldn't hurt the effort to feed the hungry masses now also -- if there is any political will to do so. But evidence for anthropogenesis is so forced, it's embarrassing.

Of course tristram would claim all his sources agree with each other! :D

I am. The cold weather came much sooner this year, and the temps are lower. High yesterday was 33. That's eleven degrees below average and thirty-three degrees below the record high that we had in 1997.

Where is it written that the temperature must be given? Our climate is in a constant state of change; attributing that to any particular agent is like an astrologist crediting the stars you were born under for your behavior and success. BTW, if you don't like the oil industry, then come up with something better; I am sure that all of us would be more then happy to buy it.

I think the issue is the rate of warming. sure there are variations, but when you start seeing temperature rises tha are many times historical rates, that's unusual.

BTW my understanding is global dimming is diminishing global warming by quite a bit. Global dimming, which is not the phucktads here on BF, but the cumulative effect of jet contrails, particulates an etc. Records of sunny days, or suns energy reaching the ground have shown something like a 20% drop, in some isolated places 50%.

Warm? I'm in Maine buddy and it was 48 degrees today.....in January!!
Compared to my childhood in the fishing industry where in January we'd be breaking ice off the cables and dumpbox. So cold that ocean water is freezing to the boat.
Of course, I also remember always going sledding on Christmas too.....been a few years since we had enough snow around Christmas to do that.
