Why no folders?

A very wise man once said at Blade show while looking at the newly released active duty in one of my pocket sheaths.

"that right there is the fastest opening, strongest lock folder out there"

Any guesses who it was ? :)

Ashida Kim?

Just wondering why Busse doesn't make any folders. Is it cause honoring the warranty for folders would be a total nightmare, dont have the right equipment, or what? I'd really like to see a Busse folder, even if the warranty would have to change a lil for them. Anybody else?

Yes I believe it's the warranty. Yes I would love to see them even wo a lifetime warranty. Should make them cheaper actually.

I guess I don't see why they would spend too much effort on that when Busse is KNOWN for their fixed blades and toughness. There are plenty of great folder makers out there already that could not compete with Jerry for a fixed blade. Get it wrong and you can damage your brand. I also argue that much of why we love INFI would be wasted in a folder.

I am very much a fan of fixed blades for everything so don't get to sweaty for folders generally.

Like the Elmax Steak Knives and HACK's a folder with INFI is probably a waste of the steel but the Rat Trap was dipping a TOE into the Folder Pool just to see how they would be accepted. Only someone Wanting to test the warranty would blatantly try to destroy a Busse folder by using outside it's intended purpose. I abuse my Big Busse blades but I don't try to use any of my pocket knives in a manner for which they were not intended.

The smart way to make folders for Busse would be to do a collaboration. Why not do a collaboration with companies that have the tooling experience and know how such as Spyderco, ZT, Emerson, Microtech? Just have Busse make and send the blades over.

On 2nd thoughts why would Busse want to do that? I mean from a business standpoint why waste INFI or 101 by sending it over to a collaboration and have to share profits? Especially when they can just water or laser cut fixed blades and make hundreds of dollars per unit. Even if they made folders in house its going to be a longer manufacturing & assembly process with several parts that need to function and work in unison perfectly. It all comes down to time is money and practical business.

Agree that collaboration would be way to go, I'd be in for infi or sr101 folder, but would prefer Elmax/ Sanvick or something. I've skinned deer and chopped trees with folders, not practical, but can be done, can't chop or really beat the hell out of smaller fixed blades either, so.

@Leonardo I skinned and butcher a deer with my BM Adamas couple years ago and most just washed of with soap and was gtg, mostly.;) I lube and clean folders plenty so isn't a big deal for me. Won't use a folder if have fixed on me, but at least half the time don't

Mmmmm a BUSSE balisong/butterfly would be exqusite! would be sweet to see an Infi channel handle but I would totally buy a sandwich as well

There! Lock issue solved

My brain just blew out the back of my head contemplating that awesomeness. I've been carrying a bali almost everyday for last 3 weeks.

Agree, but think if they took a lil time to create a folder design would sell well if not real well for them. There are very few people I knkw that continuously carry fixed blades, unless spend lots of time outdoors. Just one, one folder, that's all it would take for us wanting one to shut up for awhile.;)

Id love to carry foxed blades more, but with questionable knife laws, i usually carry folders in town, pluss theyre kinda fun to Fidget with lol especially flippers and autos.
What lock do you guys think Busse folder would have ? Frame lock ?
Thanks

In california you can carry a fixed blade of any length as long as it is worn openly on your belt. Only restrictions are no knives on school property or government buildings. Funny that our gun laws are bad and knife laws are great. I carry my TGM as an edc currently and my scrapper 5 was my edc for years. I am rarely in town or around the general public with my mountain ranch lifestyle but when in town I still can carry whatever I want.

Why not just create an infi blade, infi linear lock, infi moving parts, infi screws. Only thing not infi is handle material. There we go, hard to break. Problem solved.

So anyone tried to fold a piece of Infi?
Just curious,
Yep...it's been done.
Some years back a knifemaker who's name escapes me cut the tang off a ABA I think? drilled a pivot made liners and scales and VOILA a One of a kind Busse folder. There was a photo and it was a massive hand filling folder all business not at all sexy and sleek.
