Why no G-10 Police?

I know I keep harping on this topic but I really feel the G-10 Police was such a no brainer that it should be brought back. I know it didn't sell like Spyderco intended but I also don't think it was given enough time to take hold. The Police is such a flagship model and everyone was used to seeing it in SS. G-10 is the next logical step in the Police model. I think you are going to kill the Police model if all you offer it in is SS.

I won't buy a SS Spyderco because they are too heavy, too slick and I don't like the look of them. Almost all the other models are offered in either FRN or G-10 but the Police is left out in the cold. It is one of the best design to this day yet many people won't touch them because they are SS only. I have a buddy who is a cop. He used to carry a SS Police but after some slps where his hand was wetwith sweat or blood or whatever, he now carries his D-3. He was better armed with his Police but he doesn't trust the grip.

I also REALLY loved the full flat grind on the G-10 Police. I know a sprint run of G-10 flat ground Police would sell as fast as you could make them. Adding the G-10 Police to the line-up would be different now than it was a few years ago. People are not only used to seeing G-10, they expect it. SS is fast becomming outdated as a handle material.

I would imagine a G-10 Police would directly compete with the Military. While it's a different knife, it is similar enough to potentially steal sales from the Military.

Just my guess.

This looks like a good place to insert another plug for a dark blue G-10 Police/Rookie sprint run set :D

Seriously, I like the G-10 Police much better than the SS model, except for one detail. The extra thickness of the G-10 makes it a bit less comfortable for IWB carry. That is a compromise I am willing to make for the improved grip of G-10. I say, bring it on!

I have a PE G-10 police from way back. I love it for all the reasons already stated. If Spyderco brought it back I would definitely buy one or two.

I too used to wonder why we couldn't get another G-10 Police run.....

But these days I wonder why Sal hasn't done one with peel ply CF :D

I totally agree with the weight and slickness issue. I have never liked the SS Spydres fro anything but engraving. I always thought they should have some kind of texture on the SS handles and always wondered how cops were supposed to hold on to it.

I am not sure about the competition angle. It seems most guys that buy their knives as users either like or don't like the liner locks so there would be no competition with those guys. I would really like to see one in G-10 with tip up option. Blue G-10 would be great and they would sell like hotcakes!

Ive seen a few and never jumped on them... yes I fully regret that and would without a doubt buy a sprint run G-10 Police in full flat grind.

The second knife deal for me here on BFC was a G-10 Police, and I absolutely love this model. I wouldn't take for my G-10 Police, but I would purchase another new one.:D

Bring back the g-10 Police. Even if it is a dark blue BFC run.:D

Maybe we can get enough people together and start some sort of group buy. I promise to buy at least two if they made them. I would even send money up front. If we got say 500 people to pre order, I think that would make it worth the effort to do a sprint run. If 500 are willing to front the cash, there are probably 10 times that many that will buy the knife.

i have had a couple of G10 police models and did like them, i also must say i liked the sabre grind better than the flat grind on the police, i just think it looks better, they both cut pretty much the same in my experience, but it would be a good idea to re- intro a G10 police, unlike some i have seen suggested.

the old SS police is also a good one, even after all the yrs, i still use my SE police quite a bit, the SS versions are a little thinner than the G10 IIRC, i swapped off both the G10 ones i had a while back.

You'd be suprized if I say how many russian knifeknuts would snatch g10 police… even with $200 price tag ;)

My favorite Spyderco by far is the Police Model. I'd definitely be in for a G10 Police, as long as it had a PE and a lefty option. Add a four-way clip, a wave and a lanyard hole, and I'd wet my pants waiting for it.

Time for this old classic to get a face lift.

If Spyderco can make these G10 Polices play free and make a low rider clip on them you can count me in for 2 fully serrated ones;)

I had a G-10 police. Stupidly traded it. I would love to see a run. I don't think it would cannibalize the Military as they are different locks and the Military is a sturdier, more utilitarian blade.

At one time I considered a Police. I wanted a very large, locking spydie. In the end I purchased a CF BG42 Milie and haven't looked back. Reasons came down to what has been mentioned above: weight of ss, slickness of ss, etc.

I might consider buying a police if it were offered in something other than stainless steel. But it would have to be one heck of a knife to displace my milie.

It probably wouldn't replace your Military as an EDC but for those times when you want to carry something a little slimmer and more compact than the Military yet still have all the blade length, the G-10 Police would be great. It is not as strong of a blade but it makes a great slicer or stabber so if you had to use it in self defense, you would be just as well off if not better with the G-10 Police than the Military.

I am not sure what all the fuss about the G-10 being thicker than the SS is all about. It is still very thin compared to most knives. It is a little but thicker than the SS but the SS was almost too thin to provide a decent grip.

In all repects, the flat ground G-10 Police was a better knife than the SS saber ground version. Why are we stuck with the worse of the two models? Could you imagine if they made the Military or the Civilian in SS and dropped the G-10 versions? People would be a little upset.

Spyderco can do what it wants but I really think it is a no brainer. Bring back the G-10 in the Police like all the other models. I can't see it hurting sales of the Military. Even if it did, who cares? The Military is a better design but the Police has a place for sure.

I’d love to see a G-10 Police sprint run. I just got a Chinook 3 and I love it, except for a few moments every day when I think about how nice it would be to have a knife on the other end of the scale. Something thin and light, but still a full sized folder. The Police does the best job of putting a long blade in a small package, the problem with the SS Police is you lose the “light” aspect of the design. Seeing as weight seems to be one of the major concerns here I would suggest that it be liner-less, no point in using G-10 and then stuffing it full of metal.
Also, make it flat ground and I’ll jump all over it.
