Is it the blade shape..??...the plastic scales...??...the overall size/ergos..??...Fixed pocket clip position..?? Maybe everyone mostly feels like I first did about the Needs Work....It just didn't look right..?? I wonder if it's the plastic handles that are the main turn off..?? The bulkiness maybe..??

That's how I felt at first anyways, but after playing with one for the first time at Wally World I can honestly say...I NEED ONE NOW!!..lol. Much much more comfortable in the hand than I had originally anticipated. I am gonna have to make some venom green G 10 scales though to replace that awful plastic.

But I'm just curious...Why do yall think it isn't more popular..??

I think its just overshadowed from heavy hitters like the blur, leek, shallot, etc etc.. I keep meaning to buy one but always buy a blur or something instead.. I love the handle and blade of it.

I love mine, but I have a G10 stonewashed Needswork and I fixed the pocket clip. This knife should only be made like this! I'm sure it is dead for 2013. Don't kill it, fix it and the JYD while you are at it.

Wouldn't mind a G10 version, but yeah, the plastic and oddly shaped handles were the deal killer for me. Love the blade shape though.

I think it is the plastic and as Chester said, there are just so many great knives from Kershaw. I wish retailers would be a bit more adventurous. I suspect part of the reason the Ken Onion standards sell so well is because they are easily available, and they are easily available because retailers see they sell well and so that's what they want to stock.

I like the design of the handles. I would love to see that pattern in milled G10 or micarta and especially in a rubberized handle. I wonder if you dipped them or sprayed them with some sort of rubberized coating if it would maintain the unique design but give it a real grippy texture with a bit of give to it as well as add a bit of weight to change the balance a bit and take away the light plastic feel.

There is a G10 limited addition version, that's what mine is. Only 600 made if I remember right. We need more!! And other colors would also be nice. Brown tip up with Skyline clip! Who else would buy one? Or two? This knife is so much easier to carry tip up. It feels much smaller with the thinner tip up.

so i havent owned a needs work yet...but i like what i see from it, except it doesnt have a thumb stud.

I wish the G10 version was more available. The only thing keeping me from buying one is the handle scales.

So basically it seems to be the plastic scales...I didn't like the cheapy plastic feel at all when I handled it as it really took away from the Kershaw quality, IMO anyways.

Good thing it's an easy fix though.

I always liked the look of it and love wharncliffes but hate knives with a positive angle between blade and handle like it is. If it was like the following or maybe even a little more taken away from the angle, I would have been all over it

That looks nice but I think you'd end up raking your knuckles across what you are cutting in some circumstances.

its pretty thick, actually it's really thick and the pocket clip isn't so hot but it does feel sturdy like it would live up to its name.

? Most knives are like that or even more acute. Not many share the angle of the NW. Do you scrape your knuckles with your other knives? :p

I purchased this knife from Wally World a few years ago. It is the only Kershaw I've ever returned. It's thick, the handle scales leave something to be desired, I forces tip down carry (which is absurd with flippers), not a huge wharfcliff fan (except the Leek... Love that blade), and most importantly... It sales right beside the Skyline, Leek, and Blur (At Wal-Mart). All three are far better choices IMO. I replaced mine with the Skyline.
