Why no Ontario love?

I have a Rat-7 and Rat-5 in D2 from OKC and just got me a Rat-1. I'm not a fanboy by any stretch, but I find that they fit a niche for me where I would have to spend a lot more for something that I don't use regularly. I've beaten the snot out of the Rat-7 and it's still got a mean edge. Good stuff for the price.

Ontario makes GREAT knives. I own SP2, SP8, SP10, SP17, SP47, SP51, SP53, SP Kukri, GI Folder, M7 bayonet, RD6 Signature Series (3/8" thick S7 tool steel), 18" GI machete, 12" machete.
I have had ZERO issues with any of them. I baton the living snot out of all but 2 of them. I have had ZERO issues.

Business deals can get complicated, when agreements are made, factory lines are tooled up for production, then someone decides to make changes. That all costs money & time & we all know that time = money & profits. It is sad that that happened to be sure.

But they DO make a great product, most of which is still Made in America, by Americans, about an hour or so from me.

A couple of years ago I used to sell knives and saw quite a few Ontarios with cosmetic finish issues (especially those with stacked leather handles). That turned me off the brand a bit, I'm more fond of Ka-Bar, Becker and ESEE. I do have an Ontario made RAT 3 in D2 that's absolutely fantastic, it's one of the fixed blades I use the most.

I have looked this RD4 over 100 times and it is flawless. However, I got the orange grips--I think it might look better with tan, green, or brown grips. I like the wrinkled black powder coat. Nice touch.

I just recently got into Ontario Knives with the Rat-1. Its my primary EDC at the moment. Nothing bad to say about it. I just purchased a Utiliac II 8902 today more for the cool factor than anything else :). Its built pretty solid as well.
