Why does Bladeplay, Blade Ops and Unique Blade not except Pay pal? Does anyone know why? It makes me wonder if they are trustworthy. It makes me a little uncomfortable to give my credit card information to a company that I have not dealt with. Has anyone had a problem with these companies or do most people on this forum consider them safe to deal with?

Thanks for any input.

I have purchased several knives from BladeOps without issue, and in fact experienced great customer service. Used a credit card for all purchases.

It is likely based on fees. PayPal is a PITA sometimes as well - a lot of people drop them after the first time their acounts are frozen for frivolous reasons or due to false claims by other users. It also charges 4% up front, and like all services there are others that will beat that rate.

If they have a secure processing solution for credit cards, and a good reputation online, you should be ok - although I think there are rules about even mentioning dealers that aren't site sponsors.

Thanks for your prompt replies.

I don't know of many knife or knife material companies that do take Paypal unless its through eBay. I know Paypal had a debit card that uses your Paypal funds. Maybe you could set one up.

Threads like this belong in the Feedback section of the site. I'll move it there.

Knife supply houses take pay pal at least all the ones I use. I do wish more knife stores would take it as well. But they frown on switchblade purchases and weapons as noted in another post. But the debit card pay pal offers will work just like your regular debit so I recommend you to get one. I have it and it works great.

Just get yourself one of those prepaid debit cards if you don't want to give out your credit card info

Paypal is not exactly Knife or Gun friendly. If I were a business I wouldn't take Paypal either. Why support a company that if they had their way would put you out of business. I don't blame them one bit.

If I recall, Paypal started with ebay as a way for individuals who otherwise couldn't process a credit card to accept a form of payment other then check or money order. Back then you really needed a business to process Credit crads so Paypal was born to allow people to buy and sell on ebay without having a business.

An on-line or brick and motor store that has the ability to process credit card payments really has no real reason to accept Paypal from what I can see. Especially if they are selling knives.

You get just as much, if not more buyer protection when you use a major credit card so in that regard I wouldn't be very concerned. Better to the check the reviews and feedback of businesses to see if they are trustworthy.

The companies listed sell auto knives and Paypal does not allow payment for them with Paypal. I suspect that is the main reason......

I did this a few months ago, it was a great decision. I wanted a way to keep my knife-related expenses out of our checking account. Now every payday I just transfer X amount of dollars to my Paypal account. I can use the Paypal debit card to shop at places like Knifeworks and also to pay for shipping at the post office. Really helps keep the budget clean.

I have a separate account through my bank linked to paypal for fun money. I wouldn't take a Paypal card though.

And how many online knife stores ensure security of the customer credit card data? Every place you buy something, you give your credit card data - by default most e commerce applications are designed to store the CC data (convenience so next time you don't have to repeat). 10 merchants have your CC data, from amazon to knifecenter and everyone else. One fine day your CC has $400 charges from Abu Dhabi where someone just purchased a new smart phone. This is a too common phenomenon these days.

Having a single clearing house ensures your CC data is with only that clearing house and not exposed to the merchant. It is extremely beneficial for individual buyers. In absence of good alternatives, PayPal seems to be the only one available clearing house right now that fills this gap. Knife merchants don't want PayPal because of their high fees, than anything else (they can selectively refuse PayPal payments for autos and guns and other things explicitly banned by papal).

I don't frankly care for buyer protection but my CC data (I have had that $400 charge from Abu Dhabi... Have been extra careful I since then).

If you don't trust PayPal to hold your CC data safe, then walking to a brick and mortar store and buying knives by cash is the only viable alternative.

I will always prefer one place to store my critical data than having it spread around the world! :-)

How would you know your buyer is using a PayPal card?
My PayPal debit card is a MasterCard, and I use it just like a credit card.
