Why isn´t there a perfect knife out there? There´s always something wrong with them. To big, to small, to pointy, to heavy, to shiny, to thin, to thick, to tachtical, no lanyard hole, small pocket clip, not exactely centered blade, a small amount of bladeplay, to hard to open, the steel is to hard/soft, to cheap, not atom slicing sharp, the steel is not S30V (so it´s unusable), made in wrong country, serrations etc. etc. Why can´t some company just do it right and produce a perfect folder so I won´t have to get another one, and another one.... oh, and I can´t afford a Sebenza. :-(

I think you just answered your own question!

And besides, if your perfect knife was out there....you'd have no excuse to hang around here with the rest of us.

Perfection cannot exist in an imperfect world. However, we may come close to perfect as time progresses.

We may be able to conceive of the perfect knife, but in reality anything nature, man or machine made will always be flawed.

But this is good, as think how boring our knife hobby would be if all knives were made and looked the same.

Individual variance is what makes each brand and style of knife interesting (and even sometimes exciting).

Human nature is to want. Perfection is only an ideal, because once you attain this "perfection" your mind wont allow you to go without wanting something else... We want to want. Simple as that.

I don't know if this is even a serious thread but anyway, knives are used for so many tasks. Perfection requires high specialization.

1. Most knife companies need to put out an array of new knives each year, while some are discontinued. They can't all spend over 20 years perfecting tiny details on a knife like Chris Reeve did.
2. Even if you do perfect all the tiny details in some people's estimation, what is perfect for some isn't for others.
3. Perfection is expensive, and not many people are willing to pay that much (and the small size of the market for high end knives drives the price up even more). That means that it's not worth it for many companies to cater to those customers.

I think I will probably look for the "perfect" knife till the day I die. Of course it will be fun! The bad part is I cannot even describe the perfect knife, and will only know it the moment I pick it up. I have many knives that are very close to perfect. The one that has come the closest to perfection, and may even be the perfect knife I seek, because I know when I picked it up it was "love" at first grope, and that is the Bob Dozier Workhorse. When I bought it, it had no pocket clip, nor was it drilled and tapped for one. So I took a chance and drilled the holes and tapped them and put on a foldover clip that buries the knife into my pocket, and does so tip up. This has helped it to come close to perfect for me.

Even if this does become my perfect knife, I will not stop looking for the next perfect knife!

Hey guys: Why isn't there a perfect post? You know, something that covers everything, but isn't too lengthy to read, but also long enough to seem comprehensive? But about knives. Every type of knife or cutting edge.:jerk it:

I think this very sentiment has inspired many to become knife-makers themselves...

First of all, if there were a perfect knife, knife companies would go out of business.

Second of all, you are a member of BladeForums. If you spend any time on here, you'll be talked into buying new knives every week.

In my opinion, I don't understand why I would search for the perfect knife. I am either happy with what I have, or I'm not. It has nothing to do with perfection really.

If human beings aren't perfect, then I know some inanimate object without a soul will never be perfect either.

I honestly have my needs and wants a bit unbalanced. I could get by perfectly fine with a SAK classic for EDC. But it leaves me wanting more expensive knives. Realistically, most people don't need uber edge retention and toughness for common everyday cutting. My parents and grandparents made it through life just fine with simple steels and there is no reason I can't too, especially in today's society where everything is "ez-open" or perforated etc. So...a knife may be able to meet your needs perfectly, but your wants are another story.

Why no perfect car...watch...shoes etc.etc. Why no perfect questions?

It's because I have the perfect knife stashed in a bunker just outside north-east Ireland. When you enter there are 50 copies of it, only one is real. Which ever one you touch first is the only one you get to keep then I send you on your way. Odds are 1:50.

Or

Just buy a CRK.

What, there's no ancient Crusader knight waiting? You won't crumble into dust if you choose the wrong one?
