Why not a CLEAR handle?

Seems kinda neat. I don't like skeletonized handles but lookin' at the blade could be sorta fun.

Most all clear materials are very weak. Polycarbonate might work, but it would have to be textured to be grippy, making it not very clear. Most plastic handle materials are fiberglass reinforced, which makes it not able to be clear.

One possible option would be to have inlays...similar to the Volpe, for example. I doubt there is a clear material that could be the whole handle though. Is there?

I'd like to have pure white scales put on a few of my knives. (Large Ka-Bar TDI knife comes to mind.) I think clear handles would make a knife look too toylike, though. Not to mention the durability issues with most clear materials.

I like the occasional white handled knife.

The only spyderco I can recall with a white handle is the Evrina Kopa. Which happens to be the least popular, in all likelihood.

Jens Anso uses clear G-10 sometimes, kinda looks like snot IMHO.
Cheers,

I think a "kinda clear" material, like an FRN type of material that is near clear, but grippy enough to be useful would be cool. If it had liners it could be cooler. You could see the liners but still see light coming though the other side though the plastic.

That looks pretty good to me! My snot certainly doesn't look that nice. The Military or Paramilitary would look great in that clear G10. At Blade I saw some clear-ish G10 that was light jade colored. I think it was glow-in the dark! THAT would be good to see some Spydies in. I've also seen a "clear" Glock frame that must have been plenty strong. I think it was injection-molded polycarbonate.

Well, as a stay at home dad with a two year old, I've been experiencing a lot of snot recently,:D ........ hence the reference.

I don't think it would be a good idea to make it grippy if it negatively effected the transparency. I find smooth stainless steel handles to be perfectly adequate for pocketknife chores. A novelty clear-handled knife would not be my first choice for anything more demanding than that.

I just thought of something fun to add to the knife. How about a prism or a magnifying lens? I picture myself projecting rainbows on the wall while admiring my new clear-handled Delica. :)

We made a white Rescue for a Canadian Fire dept many years ago.

There are now plastics that can be clear and strong. The "cage" on the P'kal is such a material. It is possible to see the steel ball bearing through the clear "cage".

Sal I'm in Tulsa right now but when I get back next week I'd like to have a chat with you about this very issue.

Hi Sal,

I was wondering about that. Is that cage polycarbonate/ Lexan, or is it something else?

Thanks!

As cool as I think it would look, I can't see carrying a knife with clear handle scales. . . They would get scratched and cloudy looking pretty quickly I think. I'm pretty hard on my knives. For a collectible it would be awesome, for a user, maybe not so much.
