Why not leave a quick +1?

Does positive feedback over 5 or 10 mean anything more?

If a guy has +5 positive transactions and 0 negatives would he be less trustworthy than a guy with +50 positive but -4 negative? What about +500 positive feedback and -30 negative?

On other forums once I got five or ten positive feedback I stopped caring if anyone left any feedback for me. If they, themselves, had positive feedback over 10 then I wouldn't leave positive feedback unless they requested it. If they requested positive feedback I would graciously oblige, even though I really didn't see the point.

I think the feedback is more important for trades... since there are no terms to be enforced like paypal, you have to be as sure as possible that the person you are dealing with is on the level. Looking into what type of feedback even plays a role there (ex. 5 positive sales > 5 positive purchases) .

I'll throw my perspective/opinion in here. I don't leave feedback unless someone asks me to for one simple reason: I am not very computer-literate and I find leaving feedback on this site to be a time consuming pain in the ass.

And to be honest, it really is kind of a pain in the neck.

You have to go to their profile to even find it, then go back again after the deal is done (or not), and mess with a bunch of drop-downs and copy/paste/link back to the sale thread, and type in a minimum number of characters about it... it's not just a "click plus or minus here". bleh.

There is a quicker way than finding the person and copying and pasting the thread and all.
If you go to the sale thread there's a "Rate Seller" link right at the bottom of the first post that takes you right to a feedback page for that thread.

I don't know why more people don't, I always try to leave feedback as soon as I receive and inspect the item. It doesn't take more than a couple minutes and it contributes to the quality and trustworthiness of the B/S/T section in general, it's just the right thing to do if you frequent it.

I didn't know this. Thanks for the info.

I went to the bottom of the thread to "rate seller"as suggested previously, and it worked great. Bounced right to feedback with URL already typed in. Wish I knew about this 4 years ago.:(

Regardless if someone you do a transaction with already has 100 positive feedbacks, you should still leave feedback for your transaction. Its just the right thing to do. I know i always leave feedback after a transaction. Theres been quite a few transaction ive done and not received feedback evan after asking them to do it for me and it kinda aggravates me honestly. I dont think its as important for a seller to leave feedback but as the buyer/trader you should always leave feedback.

Often I'll say "I'll leave you +feedback when the transaction is complete and would appreciate it if you'd do the same for me."

I'm not perfect and have certainly missed a few along the way. I also don't mind be asked to do so or reminded.

That's just me though, so YMMV.

I do the same thing. I've even asked a person more than once for them to give me feedback when they got the item and it was to their approval/satisfaction. Some don't but most do.

Could not have said it any better.

Some folks do and some don't. Usually a message sent as a reminder requesting it jogs their memory and I have yet to have someone not want to leave it just because. Some folks also get tied up and this kind of thing gets put on the back burner.

Had one individual wig out because I got caught up with some family drama and forgot to post it that day. Left me a nasty message that I was selfish and then blocked me without any chance for explanation.

Very true on the first point.
On your second, I'd say they did you a favor in the long run.

iTrader feedback does show ones consistency of good dealings, yet, it is not the end all be all of ones character. Read through people's post and you can get a general idea of their temperament and how they respond to others. If they are helpful or standoffish. They may just be letters and words on a page but it helps.

Make sure you do look at their iTrader page. Whenever I see a Negative rating I'll look back and see what it was about. Sometimes it was because they did something malicious like stealing and not responding. Other times it is hard to tell exactly what happened because both parties left negative and it's nearly impossible to see who was at fault. A handful of times someone just left a negative by mistake. I swear I've seen a few negative ratings with a comment like " Great guy to trade with! Highly recommended!" Seriously it happens.

I feel that Feedback is most important when left for trades. When trading, both parties are at risk and have to rely on the trust of the other person. With great communication, a well packaged item and arrived as described, I'd call that a smooth trade and warrants positive feedback.
Then comes Feedback for sellers. They are collecting someone's money and then shipping an item. It has to be described properly and then packaged properly and shipped in a timely fashion. Everything goes smooth, +1 for them.
Last is for buyers. Buying is the simplest way to engage in the Exchange. Say "I'll take it". Honor your word and pay quickly (determined by the seller). Let the seller know when it arrives.

That's my $.02...
Wait, what was the topic again?

A great transaction warrants positive feedback.

I state this because I was perusing through the GBU today where I saw a negative thread. The tread was in regards to a trade. The OP received a knife that was describes as LNIB. While they never saw pictures prior to the trade, they trusted the member because they had plenty of positive feedback. More than 70+ and a 100% positive rating. When the OP got the knife in hand it was clearly a USED knife and not as described.

Look through the GBU to see how this concluded as this is just background info for the point I intend to make.

I always look through members iTrader. I looked at the offending gentleman's iTrader page and it still currently at 70+ and 100%. Don't know if negative was given then removed or not given at all. Anyways, I decided to look at feedback that they have left for others. It was less than 5. More than 70 transactions with different members that went well enough to warrant a positive feedback for them and he reciprocates not even 5 times. Pretty damn weak that that many people speak up for you and you either forget or just don't give a crap to leave it back.

I also took a few minutes to look through some other members iTrader that frequent the GBU and take part in the Exchange. One had around 60+ and has left nearly 100+ to others. Another guy has over 200+ feedback and has still managed to give more than he's received.

Just an observation that I thought I would share. Figured this would be a good thread because it already deals with leaving feedback.

+1

FWIW- If positive feedback was left for you, & it was a positive transaction, be considerate, & reciprocate.

Still a relatively new guy here, I've made at least 4 purchases from different knifemakers and sellers in the past couple of months and haven't received any feedback from any of them. I've left nothing but positive feedback for every transaction. I don't think I'll ever be doing any trades but can't help but think that having some positive feedback couldn't hurt.

It's a mystery...
