Why should I buy a 110 Folding Hunter? (I bought a 110 Folding Hunter!)

Ladies and gentlemen,

I like Buck as a company, and a few months ago I bought my first Buck knife, a 119 with what appears to be a super high quality leather sheath. I REALLY like my 119, and I've been thinking of heading over to the Custom Shoppe and ordering myself an S30V 110, or even just heading to a dealer and getting an Ecolite 110.

I think I just need that extra push.

So, my question to you: Why should I? What makes the 110 special in your opinion, and why should I get one? Furthermore, which one should I get? The standard 110? An Ecolite? A Custom Shoppe 110?

Sell me on this knife.

If you want a 110 size knife and a pocket clip then get a 486. That is my EDC and because it seats low in the pocket it is more work friendly. I have a few 110s also but sheath knives are not for work where I work.

The Buck 110 has such a rich history and tradition - it's hard to explain. It looks good, feels good, cuts good and sharpens good. Add to that the cost is very reasonable and you have a winning combination.

Which ever model you decide on, I don't think you can go wrong.

My post from another thread, make sure you read below the picture:

Welp, I have spent a little time straightening, sharpening, and cleaning this Buck 110 for my Father-in-law. Lets see, about 5 hours on the blade, some cleaner, some brushing, some wood polish, some brasso, some mineral oil. The sheath needed stitching and some saddle soap. It's been his hunting knife for many many years. Looks like he will get to clean a few more deer with it.

I just looked up the date. Apparently, this Tang Stamp denotes 1967-1972. This thing has been cleaning deer for 40+ years!!!

You need a 110 because you don't have one.
You need a 110 because its a classic.
You need a 110 because every American should have one.
You need a 110 because it is knife perfection.

Can you honestly name a blade that matches the 110's quality and perfection while maintaining tradition for the rediculously low price?

Pro-Tip: You can't.

I intend to carry it on my belt in a sheath.

Wow. That's impressive! I like that kind of proven, time tested quality. Shows performance that I really dig.

I'm not sure which one to get now, but I am sure that I want one. Do I want the lightweight Ecolite that I can carry in my Pj's, or do I want the tradition, custom quality of a CS S30V version....

Kwang, Ok, good. Should you have a well inventoried knife store near, with these models on hand for you to inspect. Then a visit would give you some insight toward a decision on the matter. DM

Woodrow, I'd revisit that 110 data page as pins, heads and little details matter a lot on dating your 2 line 110. Perhaps a closer year may be revealed. DM

Everyone should have a Buck 110!

Start with the basic standard (classic) model and then consider a Custom...

I agree with the above post. Once you open up a 110 and hear / feel that SNAP as the blade locks into place you'll know why it is such a venerable classic.

Yeah, I have to agree with the good folks here--I love my 110. I had the regular one first, sold it, then went with the custom shop s30v one... and I carry it every chance I get. I was just up in the mountains and it was on my belt all the time and used continually. I can't do that where I live, so I carry it in a custom made pocket slip (right front pocket) when appropriate. The blade shape is my favorite, it slices like a laser, and the rich tradition that comes with it is just gravy. I doubt you'll regret your purchase.

The only store that carries knives where I live only stocks the standard 110...but I certainly will do that, thank you.

Ooooh, purdy picture. Is that yours?

Also, why do you think I should buy the standard first?

Yep, that one is mine. Thank you. :)

I suggest getting the Standard first because it is inexpensive enough that, if you decide you don't like it, you're not out a chunk of money. If you do decide to upgrade and get a Custom one, you'll still have a fantastic knife to use as a backup.

If you really want help caving in. Go to the 110 picture thread.:D

I went custom for my first 110. For me, I knew I liked the knife as my old man had several growing up, so I had handled them in the past, and going custom allowed me to get exactly what I wanted, including the s30v blade. I think for the extra cost, a full custom is certainly worth it, and some of the wood upgrades are really inexpensive and give the knife a completely different look. Go custom, its worth it snd u wont regret it.

You can't go wrong with a 110. It may not be appropriate for all occasions, but kind of reassuring tucked smartly away if needeed. I never bought one until I was 40 odd years old....then bought the basic model from an outfitter here in town. What I have missed all those years! I recently ordered a custom from Buck for my 50th birthday, REALLY NICE! Ram's Horn and Buck 420 steel. I have a job where it's not a problem to wear it on the belt. You just gotta love all that brass and wood and a hefty feel that rings quality. I could almost quarantee you wont stop at 1.
