Why should I buy a Sebenza?

True true.

But no one is forced to buy one. The wonderful choices we have of knives these days are great.

I bought 3 CRKs, love them, have no urge to buy anymore CRKs and no regrets either.

That quality will show especially when you carry the knife for a while. I think you will notice in the first few days just the quality of it. There is a cool factor to having a Sebenza and it is very attractive. Made with good materials and quality control. Super Smooth. I do think that for the price it is expensive for a production knife and depending on what maker you look at you can usually get a Custom knife for the same amount, but usually more. A custom by a good maker will have great fit and finish along with top grade materials that will be similar to the Sebenza, but usually customized by you and have a few more exotic things that can be done. Plus there is something about a handmade knife. I would say go for it as you only live once and why not enjoy the finer things in life. If you like my last statement then checkout my thread on how my philosophy has changed regarding knives and life.

Yeah I hear about longevity in CRK.

ive had my small for a year daily edc, and its showing less wear than my hogue which sits in my center console and is only a few months old.

I read some guy saying he used his over a decade and only needs spa treatments once a while.

Just read your philosophy.... I agree with it. I am actually currently getting my two main edc knives fitted with some custom wood handles. Some of my friends told me i was nuts, since the knives im getting done are just Buck Vantage Pros but they are my favorite knives and the ones I use the most. One is going to have a Koa Wood handle and the other a Curly Redwood burl handle.

Im a steel snob

The heat treat is fine

I have used mine a lot, the ergos could be better, but its still an awesome AWESOME knife

The fit and finish is very nice

I can tell you that I don't have the faintest urge to buy a Sebenza of any kind. My use does not justify the cost. That is just me; it's your money and your decision.

that is he sort of thing that makes me want to invest in one.

Not worth it for a knife you're going to use unless you're absolutely in love with that particular design.

Otherwise, it's man jewelry. Made out of the same materials as less expensive knives, but because of the name and "fit and finish", it has a high price tag. Same as a Harley.

You're right about fit and finish...and that's the name of the game. Tight machining tolerances; excellence in design and manufacture. Wins the Manufacturers' Award every year at BLADE. It's Function over Form.
My CRK's aren't pretty...at least, not the ones I carry. They are plain Ti slabs and S30v, now S35VN, and I have lots of worm-trails on them from casual carry. It's all about excellence in the product. One Sebbie will last you forever, and a inexpensive Spa job every few years will make it like new again. They are not for everyone, but it's not limited to a rich man's toy.

Again with this?

I'll say this about the Sebenza from my personal experience and use. It will cut things, but no better than other knives IMO. It will fold, but no better than other knives IMO. It does not feel as good and ergonomic in the hand as some other knives IMO. It does not retain its edge as well as some other knives IMO (I believe others feel this way as well). It will cost you quite a bit more than some other knives, but not nearly as much as others and that one is a fact.

Some fans of the Sebenza will misleadingly have you believe that it can cut a box apart and then you can use the knife as a magic wand to then make the pieces of the box disappear. It can't do that, as far as I know. Take it easy Sebaholics... It's just a joke.

Aww, man....I was hoping that the magic wand rumor was true. Lol...well said Sir. That is sort of my stance on the issue. I have a few knives that are S30V and that steel is good for me. I don't feel as though its roided up brother S35V is going to be much better. Maybe when I am an older guy (I'm 32) I'll drop some cash on a Sebenza.

As far as the cost goes. I could but about half of the knives that I have been looking at for the last year for what I would spend on one Sebenza. That is where my main issue is with this whole thing.

Hence the almight question of ....Is it worth the money spent?

I'm pretty happy with my 25. I've carried it nearly everyday since I got it
I dunno that the edge retention is a problem at all. I'd say it holds better than my mini grip and I like how 154cm holds up just fine.
Something does feel right about a Sebenza though. I prefer it to my Spyderco Southard/Domino, but those my next 2 favorite knives.
If you can buy a Sebenza and feel satisfied with it, then I'd say it was worth the money.

It seems that when discussing the Sebenza it can be quite polarizing. There are fanboys and detractors and those who are all along the entire spectrum line. In general, they all conclude the same things--it is your PERSONAL OPINION and PERSONAL EXPERIENCE that drives the purchase decision. Try telling a Dodge guy that your Ford is better--it may lead to an argument. Same principle applies here. There are many fine knives from many fine makers. There are many horrible knives from sub-par makers. There are also many knives everywhere in between. Just choose something YOU like.

It's not with saving or having the money. It's the amount of money being spent on a pocket knife that is the issue. I mean that is a pretty hefty sum.

Just buy a handful of Opinel knives in different sizes and steels. Boom. The rest of you life, you have all the cutting tool you need.

I had the opportunity to carry and use a large, and to compare it to a Hinderer as part of two pass around. I have spent more on a pocket knife, and way more on large knives. But I just did not have to have the CR, or the Hinderer. I do pocket a custom slip joint and a few nice traditional knives. But the most pocket time goes to Opinels (usually accompanying the nicer knife or two).

Don't worry if you are not convinced to buy one. If you want it, buy it. If you don't, don't.

No wrong decision here......except for not buying a new knife. You must buy something, every one agrees...............And you have to carry one too. It would be silly to buy a new knife, and not carry it around.

That is one thing I am very adamant about. If i have a knife, it gets carried. I don't buy them as trinkets or show pieces. their job is to be a utility tool and i use them accordingly. Glad to hear that most people agree with that.

Ever watch Survival Alaska? To quote them...

'If you have to ask that question, you wouldn't understand the answer in the first place.'

In all seriousness though, just keep brewing on it. I'm surprised you created this thread given the abundancy of Sebenza threads floating around on just the first page or two.

I have a star benza, i like it but i dont carry it much, but i wouldnt want to get rid of it either.i got it cheap so its not a problem if i dont carry it alot.i like the zaan much more...
