Why so many flaky buyers?

I've been wondering about this for a while. Someone puts a knife up for sale, someone else says they'll buy and then a few hours, days, whatever, the knife is back up for sale. I haven't seen this with other goods, only knives. What is it with some of these guys where they say they will buy, then don't. They should be banned from the sales boards, it just ruins peoples sales/purchases.

Sometimes deals fall through. It's not specifically the buyers fault.

About 90% of BF's consumers have backed out on a deal before. It' something that just happens sometimes. I'm sure you will do it too one day.

I'd love to see the research that led you to the 90% figure.

It must have been a lot of work, speaking to all those who have been involved in the sales forums.

My calculations are based on all of blade forum's buyers and most importantly all the sales that have occured since BF came out. Now thinking of it even more I'd say that 90% should actually be increased.

Unfortunately this thread would need to be in W&C in order for an appropriate response to be made to that statement!

...because it's easy to flake out on deals you make online when there is no authority to force a commitment to buy...

should be a list for people who give their word to buy, then flame out like it never happened...

To borrow from Gaj.

That's not right, it's not even wrong.

Discussions about deals belong in FEEDBACK, where I've moved this, not Whine & Cheese.
Remember this as the discussion continues: keep it polite.

It's a huge inconvenience for sellers, and it does cost them money.
Missed opportunities to sell + wasted time = lost money.

I doubt it.

That's true. Especially when members keep posting "I'll take it!" even though they cannot pay for the item.

I'm sure you will do it too one day.
Ridiculous. :thumbdn:

i have to admit that i've done it myself before. i dont make it a habit or anything but i did see something that i thought was a great deal and when i researched it a bit it wasn't. i felt it was a case that if i researched it before locking it up that i might have lost it, that has happened to me more often than not.

To suggest that you've referenced over 10 years of transactions and somehow tracked outcomes is beyond implausible.

I may have had one or two back-outs in my time spent buying/selling here. In my case, 90% misses the mark by about 89%.

Not always the buyers- every time I have had a deal "done" on a Busse the seller has backed out! Kind of frustrating but it is their deal and their right. But does make it seem like I'll never own one, and I only want to try out INFI some day- maybe I'm just not cool enough.

Do the research by all means, beforehand, but you should never post an "I'll take it" unless you are absolutely sure you will purchase the Item.

Your calculation is ludicrous and ridiculous!!!!

90% my buttocks...............................

More than 10% here are RESPONSIBLE and responsible buyers say I'll take it and do.................................

A flakey buyer is the exception not the rule.

Bladeforums set the standard for a proper transaction. I've learned a lot from the people here and hope to live up to the example they set.

You have got to be kidding

Absolutely...

So you admit that the percentage was just a wild guess. Your decision to raise the percentage, was based on the same facts as your first guess. None

Its a chance you take if you don't know the market for the items you are looking at. I would rather do the research before comitting, and take a chance on missing out on an item, than commit and tell the person I changed my mind...
Sometimes I think people say "I will take it", just because they get some sort of enjoyment out of it
