Why spyderco??

I've owned a bunch of them. The Sage 1 gets quite a bit of pocket time since it is just a fabulous knife, no joke. I want a bunch of others, money doesn't permit though. Try one- many are here on the exchange. You will not need to spend a lot of money in order to own a great knife!

Please Spyderco never go away from the hole!

Since I haven't added in on the other simular threads, I'll echo Endura/Delica are gateway knives to the rest of the lineup. All my Spydies have treated me good.

One thing I rely on with Spyderco that most makers don't have is the finger choil making one handed closing safe.

I actually prefer the thumbstuds instead of the hole.
Also, I seriously doubt that the hole saves weight because the amount of height that they add to the blade to accommodate the thumb hole probably adds more weight than a thumbstud weighs.

I like Spiderco knives all right, but I'm not going to go all fanboy over them. They are nice knives. I currently don't even have any, but I've been considering adding a couple. I liked my Endura, but I lost it somewhere. I think it fell out of my pocket.

That's a good point, but when on the forums all everyone talks about is spyderco, I get their functional, but so are aloe of other knives that are a bit more asteticly pleasing. Spyderco and Becker* is what everyone talks about.

What is it with Baskin Robbins?

Manix2 - Awesome ergos, but I hate it in my pocket, clip it outside of the pocket and you've got a great garden tool
Military (lefty) - Too big sometimes, sometimes just right, sometimes esthetically terrifying, sometimes not
Lum Tanto - Awesome ergos, negligent pocket space taker upper, but not lefty friendly
Terzoula - negligent pocket space, long blade for it's size, great for tuxedo wear, not so much for tac-folder time, esthetically pleasing

Depends on what flavor you're in the mood for.

This is a good looking knife. And ergonomic. Thin for easy pocketability. Flicks open like magic. It really does not get much better than this. If a guy doesn't like this one, maybe Spyderco is not for him.

I find knives like the griptillian and osbourne and nimravenous as " pretty knives" and I'm sure they would hold up to the same wear as a spyderco. And I like the knife above, though I still like the sage and manix better, ill probably invest in one in the near future, but I just bought a griptillian and once that ships in I believe I'll opt for barrage, then sage 2 and manix2

get it in hand and use it even a little and you will know why

the pm2 feels amazing and that acute point is ridiculousness

Hold a paramilitary 2 in one hand a griptillian in the other and it should be readily apparent how much more high quality the pm2 is. At least that was my impression 2 weeks ago when I went knife shopping for work friendly edc and picked up my new favorite folder (the pm2).

I mean, I get they have some good knives And they use good steel, but so many of their knives are ugly, and by ugly I mean they always find a way to ruin a knife by adding a thumb hole that looks like a hawk eye, making the blade fully serrated, or the top part of the knife is normal, then out of the blue it races tward the sky to fit a thumb hole, and the knife becomes super ugly. Or they'll use weird shaped handles, I don't get it. Spyderco Also liked to make the blades super wide to fit the thumb hole and give a HUGE amount of thumb ramp, I'm not sure if I like that, an example would be their paramillitary, I prefer when their knives look like the sage 2, it looks normal then, like the blades suppose to look like that rather than look like someone cut a portion out on accident. I know a lot of people love their knifes, can you tell me why? Hopefully I'll like them soon enough.

Spyderco has great ergos, good pricing, fantastic quality, and endless functionability. NO other company can come close (in my opinion, don't get me wrong I love kershaw and benchmade)

I will search it. And I understand there great knives, but I prefer my knife to have a sleek look along with all the stuff you guys suggested, benchmade for example really rocks it for me, all their knives have a nice design that's highly functional. And I love the hole, don't get me wrong, I just wish they would lower it a little bit, and atleast try a rhumb stud every once in awhile, even if it sacrifices a full flat grind which I also love.

I actualy really like the manix 2
And something that also concerns me about spyderco is they hardly have any fixed blades! I for one love myself a good fixed blade.

It's all relative to your taste in knives. That's what it really comes down to. Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to whether or not a knife looks good. As for Spyderco specifically, their main concern is ergonomics and functionality rather than looks.

I have always loved Spyderco, but I am still waiting for them to release a Compression Lock folder that is under $70 before I purchase another one. Right now only Cold Steel offers their best lock mechanism at a very affordable price.

Yep it's all about taste. We have Chevy guys and Ford guys, Buck guys and Case guys, Spyderco guys and Benchmade guys. And we have knife whores like me, that like a little of everything.

Why are you guys trying to convince the OP? It's his preference and choice that he doesn't find spydies aesthetically pleasing. These might look pretty good to me but to another, they might be eye burn.

Have you ever met a person of the opposite sex, that upon first encounter their looks seem just a bit average if not a bit on the homely side, then as you spend time with them and their personality, talents, good deposition, etc...start to become more apparent, they start to seem physically more attractive to you as well? Spydercos are sort of like that.

What a pocket knife is intended to do, Spyderco is one of the best in making it so.

Personally I think Benchmade could use a little more focus on function and a little less on form.

Beauty is in the eye of beholder. I find spyderco's pretty much the only knives this year sofar, that are good looking/interesting for me.

Had persian 2 for almost year now, still one of the most beautiful flowing designs I've seen in long time. You need it in your hand to appreciate fully the genious of the design though I think.

People talk about Spydercos because they are affordable, quality folding knives. People talk about Beckers because they are affordable, quality fixed blades.

I think you miss the point of the thumb hole. It isn't a weight saver. It is an opening system that works regardless of hand condition-gloved or ungloved-and it helps with slicing, i.e. thumb studs catching material as you cut. Also, studs easily catch on clothing.

Also, studs easily catch on clothing.

As well as being annoying when sharpening.

It's all up to the owner though. I have never really used looks as part of the decision making process in my knife selection. It's all about performance and nothing else to me, though I have been quoted as saying I wouldn't take a slime green knife for free. :)

Some sure can't wait to get more of them.
