I can understand certain words being banned that would cause offence in genral but why any simple swear words that im sure 99.99% of us use in day to day life?.
It seems weird i can talk about how to kill someone or cause them immense pain etc on this site.Best wepons to carry hide in public etc.
If its kids your worrying about then id say that parts of this site are far more unsutible than them reading a swear word.
Yet i cant swear also i hear people call for all these rights regarding knives guns etc and expect our agreament yet i cant make a very simple swear word that gets across a point faster and better.
Ive heard that it is a family site but how many kids really come on hear?.
And the ones that do is it better to learn how to kill someone or rip there eye out bite there throat out etc in practical tactical than it is to read a word they hear every day.
Im not talking about trash talking every few words i know that would obviously bring the site down and obviously nothing that offencive but would a few swear words in a post be that bad?.

Do you really feel you have to use curse words? There are places you can do that, why not just follow the rules?

It's our rules. That's all you need to know.

If you don't like them, just swear a lot, and you'll accumulate enough infraction points for an automatic ban.

.

Only the weak minded need to swear to get their point across.

YO DARTH, I don't really believe my statement to be absolutely, entirely true.
Do you really believe yours is?

PS. One of the great things about being an American is our Constitutional right to Freedom of Speech. Along with the fact that it is not illegal to be a jerk!
So if a private club/forum decides it's necessary to take away those liberties, . . . . well, you figure it out!

I'm just sayin . . . . FOLLOW THE RULES DAMN IT!!!

It is a private owned forum. Freedom of speech, as guarenteed under the First Amendment, doesn't exist here, although the moderators let a lot of stuff through.

About swearing- people do find it offensive. I personally don't care that much, and think thaat sometimes, swearing adds an extra emphasis, when needed for the desired comedic or dramatic effect (ex: Yippie cay ya, mother******)

Honestly, saying that because you can talk about defense, not murder, you should be able to swear, sounds like a "two wrongs don't make a right." And here, there is also only one wrong- what happens in Prac Tac is about defense, and stupid stuff there isn't tolerated.

Also, by your argument, racism should be allowed, but (if I understand correctly) Alwilliam, a paying member in good standing, was banned for racism. The moderators, and a lot of other people, find racism offensive. Again, as this is a privately owned forum, the moderators can censor what they want.

As to this being a family forum- I am only fifteen, and there are others like me.

Also, we do have a subforum, where you can swear, and where you will find much more offensive stuff than you ever will in Prac Tac. It's called Whine and Cheese, and there is a disclaimer, that read thusly:

Not for the faint of heart - this forum is where the bastid's come to roost. If you are easily offended, have delicate feelings, sensitive eyes, or a heart condition, STAY OUT!!!!

By the way, this post should either be there, or in Service and Support.

Also, swearing can take away from serious conversation, which is what we try to have in the knife discussion forums.

There are anti gun and anti knife people in the world, and you can bet your bottom dollar they would quote "knife knuts" swearing, to brand us all as wife-beating brutes.

I assume this was in response to lowlux's thread on the WASP knife (another one bites the dust)

There are kids on this forum, gentlemen. Don't blame us or our rules because you don't get to do whatever you want whenever you want. Besides, we don't ban thoughts. You can get all your ideas across here just fine without swearing. That is, if you are remotely articulate. It's also practical. It keeps flame wars to a minimum and helps this place run more smoothly, and saves us mods a lot of time and energy, which we volunteer and don't get paid for.

Big difference dude.

haha good point nutz

all thi commotion over swearing is purely an american thing
and very hypocrital

here in europe we can swear all we want, on tv and etc.

and kids swear all the time just as well

in fact wearing is good against stress and good for the heart :)

btw how many infraction points is an autoban?

Let me keep giving them to you until we find out.

If you use foul language outside of Whine & Cheese or The Cove you will recieve a warning or an infraction. We have a set of rules on this forum that you are expected to follow. If you feel that you need to swear to hold a conversation then you really need to brush up on your verbal skills.

These_Nutz, that's a good question. I was going to go into a long explanation, but jim preston and Brian Jones covered it for me. :)

Just a few highlights: this IS a private forum and the rules are the rules. But they are in place for good reason. Swearing is inflammatory. We actually have three levels of subforums here.

The family forums outlaw swearing and insulting, but we also have forums like Whine & Cheese and FEEDBACK where we allow them. We also have forums like the Political Arena and Practical Tactical where we understand that controversial subjects will get overheated responses from time to time, and we try to control this without shutting down the discussions altogether.

We do have a very diverse membership. The less we provoke each other, outside of forums designed for that, the better. There is no absolute need for swearing, just as there is no need for smilies. Some people find both useful. Some find them inappropriate. Forum management doesn't need any avoidable controversy.

Perhaps you would be more comfortable restricting your membership to the more sophisticated European boards.

Many Americans swear a lot, too, including children. We simply have a policy here on Bladeforums which seems to be too complex for you to understand.

Your problem, not ours.

I can't help you with your irresistable urge to be foul mouthed, but I would like to recommend Spell Check for all your posting needs. :D

I know. That's why I edited it. Just not quick enough.

PS. Words ARE Thoughts.

I'd be swearing all the time too,if the government took away all my knives & guns.:D

Words are too often impulsive emotions. Complete sentences are articulate thoughts. :D Even better don't you agree?

Yes, I do agree.
Words ARE often elicited by impulsive emotions, but yet they ARE "thoughts" nonetheless.
Complete sentences ARE much better suited for relating complex thoughts,
but can also be emotionally impulsive, much to my regret! (thank goodness for the EDIT function)

However, one could argue that banning words is much the same as banning bullets! . . . . What's NEXT?

Now moving on, this goes out to All the moderators in here:

I haven't been here for very long, but from what I've seen, you All are MORE than fair. Unbiased when it matters, tolerant and respectful to everyone that deserves it.
So I thank, and applaud you.:thumbup::thumbup:

Sincerely, CM.

PS. I really DON'T have a problem with following the rules,(I guess I should go read them) and as always I shall endeavor to not be an idiot. :)

Personally, I'm surprised that a member with the name "These Nutz" has been allowed to stay at all. With an obnoxious and juvenile name like that to start with, is anyone really surprised by idiotic threads like this one?
