Why the big deal on swearing on this site?.

haha good point nutz

all thi commotion over swearing is purely an american thing
and very hypocrital

here in europe we can swear all we want, on tv and etc.

and kids swear all the time just as well

in fact wearing is good against stress and good for the heart :)

In some European countries the racism of which you are so fond of would land your butt in jail.

We don't use swear filters at all here. You can be a shitheaded fuckstick all you'd like.

Also, this is an adult site, with adult rules, so kids aren't allowed here.

That said, different forums have different styles of moderation. I don't think we have a "swear word" infraction (last I checked) but if you insist on being uncouth, some moderators won't encourage you, or, will actively discourage you.

Regardless, you can be a decent person or a fucking tool. It's up to you. Those who typically take the tool route soon leave.

What swearing, in the title under you is the word motherfucking!!!! My mother is 83 and to this day most four letter words will inspire a sharp slap, thank the lord she is a litlle slower with the hand!!

Me too,but mine's only 63....:o:thumbup:

My mouth is absolutely filthy. In my day to day life, I use four letter words to paint my world. It's an absolute constant. Some might call it a vice. I call it colorful description;)

That said, when I log onto these forums on the more public boards I am much more suit and tie. Some forums have social mores where cursing is just not "how it is done". Take the HI forum for example. It is a gentle place. Sure, things can get spirited and lively at times, but it has always been the "flow" of that board to speak softly and evenly with others. Cursing, no matter your thoughts on free speech, is not agreeable to everyone. Like I said, in my day to day life, I whole heartily embrace colorful language, but on these boards I try to behave with class and not crass. And you know what? In 6 years of posting, I have never once felt repressed because I could not freely drop the "F bomb" outside of a couple of forums;)

A lot of things can slide. A mod's job is not to be the language gestapo. However, some words are kinda rough for the more family boards. I would advise just taking off your muddy boots before traipsing on through.

It boils down to common courtesy. Taken with equal parts common sense, you'll find your stay on the forums much more pleasant;)

It's actually not even that bad on this forum. You should see my computer forum; words like WTF get filtered. It has become run by the nazis.

Trust me, this is a great forum.

Swear words are part of the American lexicon.

But, do you really need to use them, here?

I'll tell you what... If you ever feel the need to curse, PM me. I'll bet I can out-do you like George Carlin could do (would have done) Martha Stewart.

Internet communications are overwhelmingly written. Poor writing skills make that communication more difficult.

(Spelling isn't grammar.)

family forum? kids lurk around here?

If they can just as easily click on the whine and cheese forum, then why not be able to use swear words everywhere. Pretty lazy on the mods part for letting just anyone into the whine and cheese without some kind of age declaration page before entering.

Are you trying not to understand or are you just baiting the mods?

Different strokes for different folks. We have different subforums with different topics and different cultures. Take your pick, decide where you're most comfortable. The more general the aubforum, the more comfortable we try to make it for the widest group of people.

We don't restrict access here because we can't restrict even wider access on the internet at large. But we try to provide an environment focused on the topic at hand in the appropriate subforums, rather than on the "rights" of people to show off their adolescent urges.

Well explained Esav.

A phrase that my crew and I at work have found to be useful and expeditious, but difficult to learn to say, comes to mind: "I was wrong."
No excuses. I just didn't think out what I was writing. If I had, I would have remembered that "appropriate subforums" ARE provided here for the use of unrestricted freedom of speech.

PS. One of the great things about being an American is our Constitutional right to Freedom of Speech. Along with the fact that it is not illegal to be a jerk!
So if a private club/forum decides it's necessary to take away those liberties, . . . . well, you figure it out!

I regret, and apologize for my above listed quote.

PS. I don't find the use of swear words to be particularly attractive and rarely use them myself. I just found Darthsoakers post (#4) to be contemptuous and intolerant of people who do like to swear, which includes many of my friends. (Swearing has been honed to a fine skill in the northeast US. Its not rude, it's a "style"!)

OK no i wasnt talking about rascism beign allowed if you read my post i said obviously nothing that people would find offence in obviously rascism is one of many that should go without saying.
Im talking about words we all use every day.
The F word the S word basicly and a few other words that if you take offence to then you must live a very sheltered life.
When posting i dont want to write a book i want to maybe get a point across quickly and to the point the odd swear word shouldnt be a problem IMO.
And i felt the need to write this because i read a Thread about what knife would be best to cut of a human head in one swing.
This thread didnt seem to get pulled and it got several responses that were IMO so much worse than swearing.
I dont feel the need to swear to get any point over but if i posted i just cut my finger off for example it would cause offence not at the pic but at the point i say it hurts like F**k.I dont get that.
Ive read seen many things on hear that i wouldnt show to kids like pics of large cuts best ways to rip a eye out ,bite a finger off ,rip a throat out etc so i dont see how a few swear words in context could be worse than that.
And again i am specificly talking about words that dont cause offence and definetley not being abusive to others.

No i am most definetly not trying to bait use mods im sure i could do that a lot easier than bring up a point that i feel is contradictive in the fact you say its a family site.
Just a simple answer how i can read on hear about how to kill a human in a really sick slow painfull way yet i cant use the odd swear word in context without trying to offend anyone?.Also see pics of large cuts etc links to some pretty sick stories.
If i get banned for this then fair enough but i am simply asking a question that hasnt been answered.
To me it seems like blaitant hypocrisy.
So your telling me that you or any mods dont swear?. And if they do they must be showing of those adolescent urges.
The most important thing on hear is talking about knives and you do a good job of that and i respect that. However calling it a family site so no swearing to me its hypocritical what ever way you go about saying it.

You'll notice I said:

Only the weak minded need to swear to get their point across.

I do not have much of a problem with swearing , I was replying "These_Nutz" who seems to think that using swear words makes it easier to convey a point.
