Why the Cold Steel Rant???

Found this rant by cold steel while reading about the G.I. Tanto on the Special Projects website. I have the link but I dont think I can post it.

who is this directed too?


"Please don’t throw away hundreds and hundreds of dollars on similar knives sold by convicted felons and rip off artists posing as elite “military operators”. Get the real G.I. Tanto from Cold Steel and get more than your money’s worth".
 
Please excuse me if i'm misinformed, but I believe they are referring to Mick Strider of Strider knives. There has been some controversy about his past. I do not know anything about the validity of any statements made about him, I'm just guessing.

I do own Strider knives and I love them, and have nothing against the makers/knives, so take the debate as you will.

I can give 2 quick examples of who that rant could be directed toward and there may be more. On the other hand, it may be directed at no one in particular but whomever reads it and has an axe to grind with some knifemaker and just be some good old Cold Steel Marketing hype. :)

CS keeps us on our toes don't they? And they don't care who they p*ss off. (they have that real big dude that chops all the rope watching Lynn's back) :D

OOPs: bingo! that's one I was thinking of misterjuiceman. someone is making BRK Bravo 1's with USMC Force Recon input might be another...the list goes on.....

Keep in mind that the General Knife Discussion forum is for the discussion of knives.

Moved to good bad an ugly since this drama is more about companies, marketing and personalities than actual knives.
 
Sounds a lot like Mickey Ray Burger aka Strider and Dwayne Dwyer or whatever.

I've come to the conclusion that they're the felons and frauds referred to by that.

For what it's worth, Search Bladeforums and you'll find numerous posts regarding the subject.

I've got no problem with felons, but I do have a problem with lying about military service.
If I remember right, they were a computer technician and food services.

I found it interesting that an out of nowhere comment from CS was buried in a knife catalog on page 53 (page # maybe incorrect). I posted this for two reasons.

To inform the BF members about the publicized rant

To see if anyone knew who the comment may be directed too

Please stir up shit elsewhere.

It is now obvious you were trolling for a response.
 
It's just LT thinks he can sell a few more knives, so he insults the ones he thinks he can make his knives/standards look better by insulting.- Why buy his for 300 or more bucks when you can get mine for 20 and it's just as good better for the money by far, (he's saying!) And besides he's a con and a felon and a fake rip off artist(no less). Can you trust him not to rip you off as well?

At least that's what I make of it.

I can attest from personal experience that people are too often accused trolling, with no basis in fact. I certainly don't think that Cosmo is doing anything but asking a legit question. The accusations of trolling are themselves often little more than trolling, in my view, because they serve only to stir up horse hockey and derail the thread. Just like they are accusing someone else of doing.

I own both Strider and Cold Steel. I don't know or care much about the personalities involved. I just know that a Recon 1 is a way better value at $60 than an SNG is at $300. Thats why I'm packin' a Recon 1 right now. JMO. :thumbup:
 
It's just Cold Steel's way of marketing their knives. They have always been loud and boisterous, most people that have seen it for years aren't very shocked by it.
I can understand how someone could be a bit shocked by reading some other knife company is ran by such a low life bottom feeder.

Thanks powernoodle, I’m not here trolling for BS answers and to jumpstart past debates. Call it a newb finding outdated information and posting a topic about it.

My first knife was a CS Voyager Gunsite II, recently discovered a CS SRK and love it!
 
There are new people coming onto the net all the time. People who have never seen that statement before encounter it for the first time, and many of them come to Bladeforums and ask what it's all about.

Then several people accuse them of trolling. Apparently some of our members can't get their minds around the idea that some people haven't seen all the controversy and all the anguish, and they sincerely believe anyone who claims he doesn't already know all about it must be a big fat trolling liar who's deliberately trying to start it all up again just for the fun of it, so nyaa nyaaaa to you! :p

I expect newbies will keep asking about it as long as Lynn Thompson keeps that statement on his website. We might as well get used to it, boys, 'cause it ain't gonna go away.
 
But what about the people who come across the article knowing exactly what has transpired in the past, and then deliberately post a trolling question, all of this while feigning ignorance? Then what do we do? nya nya na nya na:p
