Why was the SAR8 review thread closed?

I do not understand why that thread was closed with no explanation. Aren't we all grown ups here, and can't we take a little negative review without getting offended?

Of course it wasn't objective. It was opinion. Opinion is always subjective. This forum is full of subjective opinion. The vast majority of that opinion is delivered by fellow Kool-Aid drinkers who generally rave about their Busse knives. And that's fine. But I think we can handle some new voice who runs against the grain, can't we? That thread had not devolved into ugliness, and folks should keep their responses reasonable.

So some guy wasn't happy with his knife. I think we are big enough to handle that.

I think it was "ghost mod" I was here when it got locked and I was the only moderator in the listing at the bottom.

So, abnormal reason says that it was "ghost mod" sweeps in unseen and unheard and closes random threads and sweeps away under the door.

"Ghost mod" is clever and cunning, and scary as h e double hockey sticks!

PS, I cant do squat here so itwernt me. but I am watching my tail from now on, I felt a cold chill a moment ago,

I'd assume it was considered the standard other forums cross posting no no.

Maybe it was meant as for us, the Busse community, to take the high road. Not sayin' we were bashing, but it had potential for ugliness.

This ^^^ would be my best guess. The Boss respects other Knife Makers and don't take kindly to us bashing them on his forum...even if they might be doing the same to him or his work.
The thread did have the potential for turning ugly, so I can see why it got the lock.

Yes, it had the potential for turning ugly. But it wasn't there yet. And some warning posts from a mod would have been useful to direct people to keep their comments on point and not let it descend into ugly.

That's what mods are for,

As it is, it makes us look like we can't handle criticism; as though only fawning fan boy post are acceptable.

Come on, aren't we better than that?

Are we Big Boars, with thick hides?

Can't we deal with some unfavorable opinion without getting the vapors and fainting away?

I'm not sure why it closed, but it probably would have gotten ugly. Being a Friday night... and some of the hogs propensity to imbibe might have aggravated things a bit. But it wasn't at that point (yet) and probably should have been left open until it reached that point. Mods have tough choices sometimes and might have erred on the side of caution a bit in this case.

The fact is, the video's were just a marketing piece from another knifemaker who wishes his name to be spoken in the same sentence as Busse.

Still, it was fairly entertaining watching the half-hearted chopping of the SAR 8 compared to the overly enthusiastic chop of his own knives. Sort of comical in a sad and desperate sort of way. Foul mouthed pudgy guys in track suits make me laugh though. :D

I'm thinkin' Jerry locked it to take the high road, & he's the boss hog, so I'm cool with it.

You're asking the wrong person. I didn't lock it. Well, I don't think I did, anyway...but I do have this new 'puter with a seriously twitchy touchpad, :grumpy: lol.

Did you listen through all of that video? i just tried. Took about two minutes to decide, first, that like too many amateur YouTube videos, the audio was terrible. Second, I couldn't understand what he was saying, I needed subtitles. I can handle accents, but not with that squeak attached to it.

I don't come here often, you don't need me with all the good guys you have, mods included, and you understand each other best anyway. But any outside show like this review really should meet certain standards. We have a general rule in the other manufacturer forums that if you're going to post matchups with other makers' knives, do it in General Knife or Knife Reviews. Especially if the review isn't careful and professional.

For sure, it isn't worth getting bitter over. You know Jerry always says to call him if you have a problem. Don't let it fester.

This has happened a few times before so no bitterness here. Back in the old days we would laugh at these kind of people and then devour them! This guys from Europe so he's probably just jealous of our knife /gun laws. :foot:

A few years ago we could, but recently everything has to be skittles and rainbows or to the Locker with it!

Huh, I figured it got the lock because the guy in the vid started out saying he never intended it for the forums. At least I believe that's what he said. He also threw the first volle of insult saying the forum guys would not be kind to his video.

Either way, probably better it got the lock. Who knows where the conversation may have gone, better to land on the cautious side.
