Why Would Anyone Buy a BK12?

I do love my 10 but the 10 has a stubby sort of blade tip. The 12 has more of a gradual curve and is also more of a spear point.

The tip of the 10 and 12 both are pretty much in the center of the blade, so making divots would not be a problem for either.

I don't like the swedge on the 10 so I actually ground mine off. I am also thinking about changing the belly to make it more like the BK-2

This was a very helpful post. I especially liked the knife comparison picture. Still not sure I'm sold though. Do the grips feel that much different? How about the counting? Is it tougher than the bk10 due to a different heat treatment?

you don't have to be sold on it - if you like the 10 better, get the 10.
I have both - but i got the 12 first before the 10 was even on the horizon.
then I deramped my 10 and rounded the clip a bit.
I like the size and shape of the 12 - but that's my preference, it doesn't have to be yours. :)

I'm always surprised how on the ball the Beckerheads are when replying. Good job. Just got a new non Becker (sorry!) as a gift, so I have to wait a while before getting my first becker :( however, the 12 and the 2 are both in the running, as is the 16, 14, and 1 (if I can find one online for under $200).

The scales that come on it are actually the old Camillus Becker ones. A lot wider than the standard Ka-bar scales which are more contoured. Sort of blocky in my opinion, but great if you have big hands.
But if you put the Ka-bar scales on it or get the Ka-bar micarta it will feel just like the rest of the Becker line, except the BK-2 which is thicker so therefore the handles feel thicker.

It is the same coating that is on the ESEE knives, and in my opinion, it is slightly tougher and better than the new Ka-bar coating. And the Heat treatment is great on both but I have heard excellent things about the Rowen Heat treat. Also, there is a no questions asked warranty, It breaks, send it back for a new one.

With some mods to the BK-10, it is an excellent and amazing knife and you can get a new BK10, micarta scales, and almost have enough left over for a custom kydex sheath for the same price as the BK12. So it's really personal preference. I have both and if I had to get rid of all my knives except one, I would keep the BK12.

Also I might add that there is slightly more meat on the blade, meaning that it is a little bit thicker at the edge before the grind. A plus in my opinion and came razor sharp from the factory and all grinds were absolutely perfect.

And one last thing about the fit and finish, if you look at where the grind starts at the handle on the 12, you will notice that it is rounded not cut straight like most knives.

Pretty much sold me. When I get the money (and the excuse) to get another knife, I'm getting either a BK2 or a BK12. Now post more picture for People to ogle at please. It's fun! A picture comparing the grip sizes of the handles side by side (bk2, 10, 12, etc) would be nice, but post whatever you want (bk12 related)!

Heres an old pic of BK2 and BK12 before I stripped it.

That's all I could find for now. Hope that helps. lol :D

Immensely. Man, you are like lightning! How do some get their Beckerhead number? Luck of the draw?

oh, yea luck of the draw. When they were first released I'm sure he asked the dealer or something. Guyon knows people who know people. lol

That's what I thought. Thanks for all your help Dex. I'll definitely take all of this into consideration for my first becker purchase (eventually... Urgh).

I asked for #022 in an email and they made it sound like it might be possible but when it shipped I got #059. as it turned out they let you "fall back" to a number you wanted but not "jump forward", it was all based on your number in the Q.

And so I'm staying on topic, I like the 12 but I'd never get another one. The 10 does the job as well and at half ish the price.

great thread!

love Dex's comparison pix. maybe have to steal those for the database :D

Great pix Dex, but I still have to ask... who the hell has #097?!?!? I have #34 I think.

Sorry, should have been more specific. I meant on your bk12 (ex: Guyon's says 009). When Knifeworks sells over 999 what will the rest be labeled?

Just quick on the draw. I was first in line during the pre-order and could have gotten 001 if I'd wanted it. I asked Roger if i could get 009 instead.

I would love to have number 146. Maybe I will start a thread if people want to swap for their BH numbers.

Feel free Bladite, I took them for all to enjoy. I have a lot more comparison pics I took a while back with each blade compared side by side. I want to take some more side by side with each one with measurements and better lighting, With scales and with no scales.

Here is some that I posted before:

if you change the belly on the 10 you'll end up with a VERY thick edge section where you ground it back, which will reduce how well it cuts there.
Nice comparison pix again, Dex.
Has anybody de-ramped a 12 yet? :D

Thanks. And yea you would have to grind it on a stone to bring the full grind back to make it all uniform. I'v seen that guy VirtuoVice on youtube do it to a couple of blades.

And I think someone had a Deramped 12 around here a while back?
