wierd steel i never heard of

Unfortunately I cut more than just rope with my Boye BDC knife, and as has been pointed out by others, the cobalt matrix deforms (rolls, flattens) more easily than steel when it hits something hard. I sharpened on nickel bonded diamond plates because that's what I had. Next time I carry it I may try to sharpen on ceramic or oilstone afterwards, I suspect there may be some flow of the material back into a sharp apex when rubbed against the hard and less abrasive surface, somewhat like the effect a smooth steel has on a high carbon steel knife.

The omission of carbon makes it impervious to oxidation, so it cannot rust or patina.

Sorry . . . I am obsessing about this one.

Comeuppance,

You meant to say "Omision of Iron makes it impervious to oxidation, so it cannot rust".
Am I right ?
It is the iron that oxidizes/rusts, but I am SURE you know that.
