Looks like an amazing time! The knives with long handles, are those Thai e-neps?

This is a picture of the thermos that the monk carried on his back.
It's old fashion, but it's really work for monk who isolated himself to jungle.

....They had not eat any food for more than 24 hours as they could not find vilage and people who donate food.
Noemally strick monks eat once a day and the meal must be before 11.00 a.m. ......

How do they tell time with such precision in the jungle?

You guys may be surprised that while the water boiled, the bamboo is not burnt.

Dick, Maditation - This is an amazing thread! Your photography and descriptions are very insightful and the images bring me back in time. Years ago(many, many years ago) I visited Thailand while in the military. I had the pleasure to travel from Bangkok to Pathum Thani where I stayed for 4 days and visited Wat Sing and a few other historical places. You live in an amazing country with extraordinary people, deliciously spicy food, and breathtaking landscape. I had a wonderful visit and plan to return someday......... someday.

Thank you for posting all this.

Hi Dick,
Can you please elaborate on what were the monks carrying with them? To be isolated from the village they must have some very versatile kit.
Great pictures, thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Joe;

So you want to know the Monk's Gear ?:o

The Monks who isolate, they travel by walking and they will visit village in the early morning to beg food.
The monks will prey for those who givw food or may giving some religion's thoughts in exchange.
If there are days that they cannot find peopl who offer food they do not eat as they are not supposed to have any collection of food.
The rules on food has some exemption for example milk or things that no need chewing.

The monks had gear called " Humble SuppliesW , they are as followed:

- Three pieces of cloth
- Spoon
- Water container
- Pot, monks who are strick will put all food in one container and mix them so that will not addict to taste
- Piece of cloth without cushion
- Soap and tooth brush
- Monk;s bag
- Umbrella and blanket
- other small supplies that may need for minimum uses

Dick, Maditation:
Thanks for confirming. I've seen thermoses like that! Very common throughout Asia.

It's easy to tell if it's before or after 11 am especially near equator - it's the hottest time or the day (or nearly so) and the sun it almost overhead. I am not completely sure,, but Thailand might be like that. Or they might have a clock/watch - they're not Luddites :)
