wilderness kits, ( & pics)

Fonly if you're looking at the Fort Meigs Nessmuk then don't bother. I have one and it is really a toy, not serious tool. VERY thick blade profile. The head is one casting and while I haven't had problems with the edge I have a hard time falling in love with it. The handle is also very thin, I guess in keeping with the original Fort Meigs axe.

All of these kits are great and pretty usefull, however the one thing that I really notice is that every thing looks either brand new or you guys don't use them. Just an observation, nothing more.

partly right Tony, well for me anyways, I just moved and bought alot when I got out here(Grand prairie Alberta), but my mora has been used for almost anything a knife can.

And after the small talk of sak's, I figured i'd go out and buy one

heres the officer brand new today, now i've never boughtn' a sak before but on the package it said scout, then on the side of the blade it says officer, so is that a variation of the scout genre? any ways here it is

well there you go guys, I really like the feel of the sak, its the right width and every thing.I think I might be contempt for a few weeks anyways :D

victorinox, but i was looking around and i think it might be the camper model

Tony have you noticed that (seems to me) most of the guys that post about their uberknife being able to cut/chop/hammer/baton post a current pic that shows the coating still intact. When Cliff post a knife pic there is no doubt he's been out whackin wood or preping food.

Sorta like the guys who drive shiny 4x4s with the undercarriage all clean and nice but claim their truck will go anywhere. Bull!

Yes it is the Camper! I got the Budget version(no toothpick, tweezers and other handle material). After 12 years of using this SAK it works still like it’s a new knife. Although it’s full of scratches and I need to sharpen the saw again.

for 2dogs and tony, dont forget some of these pictures are off the net, mine arnt but the nessmuk trio pics are, and If you look a longbows gear, you'd know he uses it, but he also takes care of it.

So here are some used knives, I only baton anything when I need to, and thats only been a few times for the ka-bar. I use an axe all the time for the larger stuff, so if you only cut with a knife and sharpen it without damaging the finsih. Then it wont look too worn.(Thats why some have the original finish) And thanks to cliff, we dont have to test the knives, if they hold up to him ok, then they will for us.

Lets see come pictures of your gear guys.

It's no biggie whether someone posts a pic of a new blade or old blade and says it's good. They are only reflecting their feelings about their knife or other piece of gear. Whether or not it's based on actual use or reading one of Cliffs reviews is on them.

Now...............where did I put that photo of my Northstar and it's scarred up blade?:D

My Ontario machete has so many nicks , kinks and wear I can't bring myself to post a pic of it!

It gets sharpened with a bastard file, and only because I like saying "bastard". ;)

ha, oh my god,...duh it has a saw,... sorry everyone

i got one of those except mine is not containing the tweezers/toothpick and my handle matirial is the sam stuff but i would like to see the shield on it please

Here`s a pic of my little kit.
I don`t carry everything on a daily basis though, only the two knives, and the matches is EDC.
The rest is stuff i usually carry in my shoulderpack.
The primitive fire-making kit, is something i only take with me on special occasions, as i haven`t found a suitable container to carry both the charcloth, the flint and the steel in.

Thats a great looking kit aarya, nice and compact.

And for ajcz I think this is what you meant(the shield?)

aarya. what type of container you use to keep the wax-soaked cotton, ferrocium rod, match and the sewing kit?? the kit nice small and easy

Darkhawk:
The container i use to keep my wax-soaked cotton in, is just a extra waterproof matchcase for those windproof matches in the picture. It was just a couple of bucks, so it didn`t really make a dent in my wallet, and it`s plastic, so it`s virtually indestructible.

The container i carry the ferrocium rod and the striker for it in, is also a matchcase, this one has a rubber gasket seal, so should be waterproof too. It`s not really necessary for it to be waterproof, but it beats having the rod rattling around in my pack.

The sewing kit container was originally a package for some strange bubble gum, plain plastic, kept closed with a rubber band. If the rubber band snaps, i`ve got spares, or it could be shut tight with a piece of string.

If anyone wonders, the orange matchcase and matches are called Cyclone Matches. It was the cheapest, and most readily available sturdy matches i could find in the area.

on the package it said scout, then on the side of the blade it says officer, so is that a variation of the scout genre?

There are two types of SAK. The Soldier, which is the metal handled knife issued to the Swiss Army and the "Officer", which is all the other knives. The Officer was never issued and now all the hundreds of models besides the Soldier have Officer on the blade.

one thing that I've always tossed in my little kit was an unlubricated condom. What else can be stored at the size of a half dollar, but can also hold over 1qt of water! I've seen over a gallon put into them before, but when you start getting over a qt they're more likely to pop and harder to support.

then I also carry a folder, either my benchmade pika or a leatherman
a bandanna
used to have some wax soaked lint, but used it all and havnt made any more.
usually have a bic or 2 in may pack, and had a little metal tube for strike anywhere matches... but it fell down the side of a cliff...
also had some cord, but it got used and havnt replaced it...
if I know the area well then I'll probably forgo the map and compass, but if I'm not familiar with the area always a map and usually a compass...
and also an old powerbar... been in there for like 4 or 5 years... if I had to I could eat it... but could also use it for bait for a trap
and last but not least part of an old roll of toilet paper(good for fire and better then leaves for the backside...)
a little LED light

could ad some more to it... but I like what i've got now... usually add things as I think of em... or need them and dont have them...
