Will some one tell me the history of S110V ?

CPM S60V (440V), CPM S90V (420V), and CPM S110V were all developed for plastics processing equipment like Screws and Barrels and Barrel liners ect. CPM S30V and CPM S35VN, and were the only grades Crucible developed specifically for the Knife Industry. I worked for Crucible for 20 years up until the bankruptcy. CPM S60V has been re-introduced by Crucible/Niagara Specialty Metals and stock is available.
I had a forged 440V/S60V Sean McWilliams knife backing the early 90's.

Strangely enough I have had issues with chipping in S90V at 60-61Rc in th past, but not with S110V at 62-63 Rc. I talked with the folks at AKS at length about this and the general consensus is the addition of Niobium in s110v is the leading factor.

I have been using alot of s110v and having it heat treated by Peters. While I wouldn't make a large chopping blade from it, it has served very well as hunting, skinning, general purpose and edc knives. Several of my S110v hunters have made their way down to Africa on hunting expeditions with excellent results.
