Will there be a 2017 forum knife?

I agree that a darker shade would make more sense. The Natural Micarta got my vote :D

I will buy whatever offering comes down the pipe line. (Or tube line) ;)

I bought last years and got one of the sticky punch knives, but just sold it on the exchange with no hard feelings.

I know ALOT of work goes into these each year and i love being a part of the community here.

Thanks fellers and keep up the good work!

I like micarta with a nice strong visible grain. So I very definitely prefer canvas micarta.

What if....

I think there are many standard stock micartas at GEC.... Red linen, Black Linen, Green linen, Maroon Linen, Natural Canvas, etc.. What if ALL standard stock colors were used, and instead of us all picking a color at checkout, all the orders were randomly fulfilled. So you'd have the surprise of opening the mail to find out what you got? It would also encourage some trading between members if they got a color they didn't prefer, but somebody else did. (Returns, of course, would not be honored for a color you didn't like).

Too risky? I think it would be a lot of fun.

I like this idea a lot , same thrill as when your a kid opening up a pack of baseball cards and not knowing which one your going to get.

I have some serious issues with tartan/tweed/ micartan/micarta.
I warn ye noo! dinna use the tartan
Tweeds are tartans?
Anyway, I doubt the Harris Tweed will fly. A tweed jacket is a lot more expensive than a burlap bag.

So is the use of Micarta a foregone conclusion? I thought it was merely an option that Charlie floated since his own TC Barlow SFOs only use bone/wood/stag. He didn't say it HAD to be Micarta.

I guess we will learn more as time goes by, as to what the options are.

Hello everyone!
I have been keeping out of the discussion, because I wasn't sure if I wanted to do the knife again this year, especially since prices have been going up; and of course it takes up some time as well.
I have been kicking around a couple of ideas with GEC, and I have an idea that you might like, and that might work!!
Most everyone likes the TC Barlows that GEC produces for me, and many have asked for alternate handles which I stubbornly have refused to do. Traditional only is my mantra!
I propose this:
We do a TC Barlow for the forum knife! No royalties or anything else to me! Not my rules on handle materials either!! Maybe that infamous canvas micarta, or, or or. . . .????
Sheepfoot blades are the next in the rough plan I adhere to.
If I do my run at the same time, we both get economies of scale. The Forum knife will be cheaper than my bone-handled version. Correct me if wrong, but I think all the Sheepfoot Barlows to date have had long pulls, so let's do a crescent nick (also, less expensive) on this one.
What say you???????????

Wow - I just decided to get caught up with this thread. If I read Charlie's post correctly, I'll maybe have a shot at a Forum Knife TC Barlow, and a Charlie TC Barlow...? :D Win-win!

There's already been a Blade Forums knife with the Barlow pattern. The pattern used this year should not be a pattern used for a past Blade Forums knife.

Not everyone has a BF Barlow... Im sure you also have variations of the same pattern.

I understand where you're coming from, Ed. We've tried to have something different every year and so far we've been successful. I do think that the fact that Charlie, Barry and GEC are once again responsible for us even having a knife this year should come into consideration. I for one wouldn't mind another Barlow. Charlie has quite a following with his TC Barlows and I'm of the opinion that a BF forum knife with the TC bolster is gonna be a huge hit and satisfy the majority of the forum members.

The 2009 BF Barlow was made by Queen, had two blades, D2 steel and killer stag. If you can find one don't hesitate for a second. It won't last long.

Does this mean you're volunteering to coordinate and finance the project for a different pattern?

I gotta agree with Gary here, I for one would really love to see the BFC 10 dot tang stamp used to completion and as long as we're gettin' another quality knife for the next 3 runs I think the BFC Traditional Forums annual knife made a successful 10 year run based on the stamp. An entire generation of BFC tang stamped knives out there. This I think would be unique to BFC. I know many other forums out there have had forum knives for longer but correct me if I'm wrong, none have their own stamp let alon an entire decade generation of them.

I'm indebted to Barry, Charlie and many others for giving us the past 11 years, heck we almost broke Gus the last year he was involved and the last thing I'd ever want the forum knife to do was hurt any of the long tem friendships made on our forum over the last nearly 20 years.

I'm fine with what ever Barry and Charlie collaborate with the folks at GEC on, I have the utmost faith in these guys, they've never led us wrong and in the end want what we want, another porch worthy annual for the traditional forum members.

ETA the 2009 Barlow is one of my top 3 favorite forum knives.

... And just as a reference here's a pic of all 11 years worth of knives so you folks who never saw them all in one place at one time can get an idea of what has been accomplished by the people on the porch. ;) :)

Thanks Ted for the line-up.

What other patterns has GEC produced that haven't been seen as a Forum Knife?

EUREKA! VIPER

Plenty others too. Other simple single blades could be a 56 Dogleg, 06 Pemberton, even an 83 Lockback a type of knife never yet attempted.

But the Barlow seems to have taken off like a rocket so there we are.

In all seriousness, that is my dream Bladeforums knife. But I don't think it will ever happen.
