Will there be a 2017 forum knife?

Those LionSteel folks seem friendly, if it comes down to sourcing from Europe. They also have a manufacturer's forum here. I am not sure what they can do as far as a pure traditional pattern, but they are not shy when it comes to using more modern steels, so that might be a draw for some.

I am unlikely to participate this year, so just tossing in some ideas. No matter to me how it goes.

I'd like a 92 Eureka Jack or single blade Talon in all steel-preferably stainless. It's an appreciated rare pattern that could be made alongside a usual run of Tidioutes/Northfields. They could even reverse the frame and make a Stockman out of it so there's lots of potential!

Interesting suggestions, I would be happy about a GEC Eureka Jack as well!

Im definitely game for 440C no matter what pattern makes it as the final choice. :D

Since we can wish all day for patterns or steels to no avail, how about we focus on handle material? I'd like to see something in Yellow Heart or another light colored wood.

As a relative new comer here, let me say that I really appreciated the work that went into the 2016 BF knife by Charlie, Gunstock Jack, and GEC. I hope that the tradition can continue, and I know that I will purchase whatever the BF knife might be in 2017. Once again a big thank you to those who made last year's knife happen!

Only U.S. company perhaps Barry, but I think there are plenty of European companies who'd kill for an order the size of last year's. I'd certainly be up for a BF Douk-Douk or one of those other interesting French patterns

I know it's been a hard struggle these past few years, but I can't help missing the days when the forum knife was chosen by the membership here, rather than determined by GEC's production schedule, etc. I have to wonder if the project is still worth all the effort folks like yourself put in :(

I am with you on that Jack! I wouldn't mind running the polls and such. We are only 2 or 3 years removed from when we all picked what we wanted and they made it for us. It was fun and entertaining with great, unique results.

Will has some valid points but I really like the European idea that Jack suggested. If a workaround could be found for those issues I would be all for it. Opens up a whole new catalog of options. I think we might be surprised at the options we might find if pursued.

It would be great to step outside the box for a change. Great suggestion Jack!:thumbup:

A forum Laguiole or something region specific would be really interesting :D

I very much appreciate all of the work that goes into the forum knife and none of the samples, produced by GEC, have disappointed. I hope that we are not arriving at a place where we loose the spirit of the forum knife due to who makes it. Then at what point do we stop calling it a forum knife if the forum doesn't pick the model?

If we are having to use whatever frame GEC is producing, then it's just another production model with bladeforums on the tang. The history of the bladeforums knives, regardless of from which subforum they derive, have been called such because the members choose them.

I'm not trying to stir the pot as I have several forum knives. I liked the patterns and would have probably bought them even if they weren't forum knives, but I felt a part of it all. I feel like us choosing more of the design gives us some ownership in the outcome. Again, thanks to all of you gentlemen whom make this happen every year. I certainly hope for and anticipate a fine looking, quality tool regardless.

Bring back the GEC Pemberton pattern. That should be popular. They haven't made those in years.

^^^ +1^^^^

Would love another shot at a Pemberton (2 blade)
