Through the years, Bladeforum members have dropped off quietly, noisily, or just plain disappeared in the sunset.

I recall names I don't see around anymore. Some of us are moving on to new jobs, new places or just going to stay away from the computer. These people are probably going to say "adios" to Bladeforums for a while.

What about you? Will you still be here next year?

I guess I will stick around for a while. It has been fun. I have learnt quite a bit about knives and people.

If you are sticking around, what do you hope to learn or contribute? :)

I see me being here forever, or at least until Spark decides it’s not work his time and money anymore:( I have gone through phases where I will be addicted to one thing or another for a few months and move on. Such things like Marine fish: I used to spend around $300 a month on fish for my aquarium; I still have my tank, but got sick of buying $100 fish that would die the next day. However knives are different. I actually consider this a valuable hobby. I can add a new piece to my collection and spend anywhere from $10-$10,000. The difference is with knife collecting, I will have these pieces forever. Even if all the companies all stopped making knives:eek: , I would still be able to buy 3-4 knives a month for the rest of my life before I ran out of models I wanted. Blade Forums is more than just some website to me. I have not let a day go by since the day I joined where I don't at least come here for a few minutes to check out what I missed or browse the exchange. Before my son came to this world, I spent about 7 hours a day reading here and that’s no joke.

Yeah, I'm with TBG on this one. I come here at least once a day, and there have been times when I've spent 10 hours or more going through old stuff and or reading about somthing I just bought.

I know that I'll be here. The diversity of view points and the interaction with knife makers, manufacturers and other collectors is very enlightening. I've collected knives on and off for twenty years and I can honestly say that I have learned more in the five months that I have been a forumite than I had in all those years combined.

I spent the better part of 2002 just checking in here every once in a while to kind of keep up to date.
It's not that I lost interest in knives mind you, it's more like I lost the desire to participate actively in the forums.
I guess I had a lot of things going on this year that distracted me. I went through some rough times (major surgery etc...) and while recovering I started to check in here more and more, and to participate more and more, once again.:)

I don't see me loosing my interest in knives so as long as I'm still kickin' I might as well be here where the best knife action is.;)

I'm going to try to be here. I know that with graduation there will be alot of changes coming in the next few months but I just can't see myself without the forums!

I'm not going anywhere in the near future. That is unless I have an unexpected fatal accident. This place is way to much fun. I enjoy the company I keep when I am on BladeForums and I have learned a great deal here. Hopefully some of what I have posted has been helpful to others as well.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Interesting thread...
I come here to find out info about knives :D
Somtimes I find that I can give some info which is a nice change. Of coarse I'm on the seach for the perfect knife which so far does not exisit, but the hunt is the fun part anyway. When I find a knife that I really happy with I usually become less active here and when I'm having trouble deciding what to carry you'll find me back here again. So I hope to stick around until the perfect knife comes around and I know everthing there is to know about knives... of coarse we all know when that will be ;)

See ya around the forums!

I think the only day that I've missed was the day that the system was shut down and I've got a while before my membership runs down so I think I'll probably be here for a long time more. I hope to expand my horizons and learn as much about everything as I possibly can and hopefully in the future I will be able to offer a lot more (useful) information to the new generation of knife knuts.

I don't see myself leaving anytime soon, of course not a one of us knows what tomorrow holds and things can pop up out of nowhere that will totally disrupt our future plans. Okay now that the disclaimer is out of the way..........I've loved knives ever since I can remember so I'm guessing that I have loved knives for around 40 years being as how I'm now 46. You can not teach an old dog new tricks so I don't see me ever being turned around to not loving knives. This forum and others have done more towards increasing my knowledge of knives than almost anything. I've met people here whom have become friends. Some I've gotten to meet in person while others will always be through the 'puter and that is fine, their still friends! Despite the differences we have and the likes and the dislikes we have, knives have been the one thing that brought us and continues to bring us together. Where is the best place to be if you like/love knives? Well right here of course!!:D :D  :)

I've been here pretty much everyday since June 2000, and I plan on being here for "awhile" longer...UNLESS of course, a house falls on me.:D.

I don't know. I will probably continue to read the forums from time to time, but likely not ever spend the amount of time I did here for the first couple of years. Why? Lots of reasons.

The forums have changed as they have grown. There are a many many repetitive threads, and one gets tired of reading the same ol' stuff again and again. Then there is the change in community. When the membership was smaller, and the post counts lower, folks seemed to know each other better, spent more time writing good informative posts, or asking good questions. I posted very little this year, having more important things to worry about than what was going on at BFC. I also have a lot less disposable income this year, and am not actively shopping for new knives.

I too miss some of the forum members who have gone missing in action. But not all. Some people just manage to flame themselves out. Anyway, all things change and this forum is no exception. This is still a fun place to hang out, but I don't seem to be as inspired to take the time to write posts anymore. That seems to be true for a lot of folks.

At the risk of angering some folks, I will say that my old favorite forum (custom) has become so overly moderated that people can not post a picture of their latest knife there anymore. I know that the Gallery was formed for that purpose, but the net effect of so many posts being moved elsewhere has been a dramatic decline in the number of posts made in the custom forum. It just seems dead and boring to me most of the time.

The general forum has so many posts that good threads slide pretty quickly off the bottom of the page and disappear before many people have had a chance to read them or respond. I don't think there is anything to be done about that, it is simply a reflection of the forums success in attracting many new members. The community forum is not nearly as much fun as it used to be, and W&C is a total waste land, not even worth the trouble to read, let alone post. The political forum was always a fierce battle ground, and I just don't find it to be a place for discussion so much as a place for a very small number of exceptionally vocal people to ram their opinions and philosophy down others throats.

So the forums have changed, I have changed, and others have changed. People come and go. In many respects, the forum is a lot like life. People move in an out of our lives. Sometimes we meet people with whom we establish lasting relationships, and this forum has certainly provided an opportunity for that. So I will continue to read the forums from time to time, sometimes more, sometimes less. But I have pretty much recovered from my BFC addiction, and just don't get the same kick from participating here anymore. And that is my choice, and not something I blame on anyone or anything.

Yes, yes I will be. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! (insert "evil laugh" sound effects here)

I'll be here. If I get hit by a fast moving truck I might only be lurking, but I'll be around. :D

Good reflections Para.:) and probably more on the money than anyone might think.

Leaving for 9 weeks of basic training in Fort Leonard Wood (Army) on January 2nd. Then I will be going to 8 weeks of military police school at the same base and 3 weeks of Airborne school in Ft. Benning, Georgia. All of this will end in late May/Early June:)

So...uhhh...no:p I won't be around;)

...I will be back though.

I mean this sincerely and honestly. I hope that I am not here.

Coming here this year was part of a personal walk for me. Sooner or later you have to quit the pity party and do some good work. I feel that I'm almost there.

Further, like all of my hobbies, things run in cycles. I just sold two knives and gave two more away to good friends. I went looking for a good folder in 1996; with the AR and the SnG, I have fulfilled my needs.

True, you guys break me up and I learn things. Hey, the walk continues.

Definitely:D Though probably not as much in the coming year. 2003 is promising to be a very busy year for me.

As long as I can remember my various passwords, I'll be here! I have been learning & growing on this forum. Always touch base here at least twice a day - would really miss the questions, answers, pixs & nonsense that goes on!:D

For Ichabod Poser: C'mon man; you can take a 'personal walk' back here once in awhile to say 'Hello'! Be good!
