Will you still be here next year?

I intend to be around, barring unforeseen events. I've had too much fun and learned too much to let it go. (Spent alot of $$$, too. ) Being involved here also led me to the shows and to the custom makers like Darrel Ralph, Alan Elishewitz, Pat Crawford, Bob Dozier and others who I've gotten to know, as well as some of the members here who attend the 2 NY shows, like PhilL, Bcaffrey, Lifter4him, Ebbtide, Win Heger, Doc and others. Altogether, a fun and very worthwhile experience.

Merry Christmas to all.:)

I'll be around for the next 30 years or so, providing the forums last that long. Then I'll retire, and I'll probably never want to see or hear about a knife again...ha...right.

Merry Christmas !

Will I be here next year? Who knows. This forum is the most complete online community that I have found and I enjoy participating. I love the free exchange of information and the general willingness to share info and opinions that most of the members display. I think the passarounds are a killer idea and really help take BFC from just another virtual experience to something truly interactive.

While it's true that not every post or member has merit, the overwhelming majority do in my opinion. I too am guilty of checking in daily and was actually bummed out when the server was down for an entire day for maintainance.

I have learned a lot here about more than just knives and for that I'm grateful. I can't say that I've made any great and long lasting friendships yet, but who knows, if we can get a So Cal get together going, maybe that might happen.

While I don't intend to go away any time soon, you never know when the server will crash and Spark will decide to quit throwing money at BFC and all my browser will say is:" 404 file not found" and that will be it.

Until then, Merry Christmas to all (or happy Kwaanza r whatever floats your holiday boat).

PS: If I hang around here long enough perhaps I'll learn what Gollnick actually does for a living.

I'm here for the people not the knives. If anything my interest in knives has waned in the last 6 months as I have learned about and purchased the blades that I need for daily use at home and on my adventures. I have no plans for any more.

But it's the kind of people who like knives that keeps me coming back.

I've been lurking mostly but I will always stay around. It's warm in here.:D

I'm pretty certain I should have walked away from this place a few years ago.

I, like several others, will probably stick around and read through posts. Perhaps when I find myself useful in a discussion, I will try to add to it, but that rarely happens anymore.

Like all forums, there are going to be some stagnant times -- you're always going to have new people that don't bother to use the search function and ask question that have been asked and answered a hundred times. But there is plenty of other information in the forums to keep me satisfied. There's always pictures of knifes in the customs section, and the buy, sell, and trade section gives me a daily dose of "yearning."

I'm still a "newbie," but I plan on staying around for awhile. I'm usually on it twice a day, usually just to read and learn. I'm not sure how long it takes to get promoted from Private status, but I hope it doesn't take to long. sooner than later I'm going to pay my $30 and begone with this "Basic Member" whooha.

:D

Interesting question. I hope I'll still be hanging around and learning. I've just recently found these forums, but have been kind of a knife nut for years. I'm considered quite unique (read odd) in my circle of family and acquaintances because I like guns, knives, watches, and fountain pens (and have spent some big bucks over the years feeding the appetite). Lo and behold, there's a bunch of guys just like me that lurk about these forums (many with even bigger appetites than me). While I'm in the military, I don't really gets lots of use outta my knives. Don't know too much about what knife to use for self defense and, although the USAF has provided me with world-class survival training, I'm far from an expert on the right piece of steel to have on hand when the chips are down (but I have some good ones to choose from.) For me its just the beauty, utility, heft, precision, and potential of knives that has me hooked. All of us at various times in our lives have heard various pieces of truth or wisdom that stick with us always. Early in my life I heard someone saying that "the knife is man's most basic tool." Made good sense to me then and still does -- so here I am. Sorry for the ramble, but I think most of you know where I'm coming from. Cheers...

I sure lurk a lot more than I post, but I'm enjoying my time here and hope to continue. The Forum has evolved as it has grown, no doubt in some less than desirable ways as well as ones that are great, but that's the way of the world.

For all of the junk on the net there's diamonds(well, at least diamond-coated:)) to be found, and this place is one of them. I've become accustomed to checking out Bforums or a small list of others(in several walks of life) when I need fast, informed opinions on any number of topics. Not a bad investment of time and the few $$$s Spark needs, when I see what I've learned here.

Happy New Year!

I don't see any reason why I wouldn't be here. Unless Kevin decides to shut down or I cut all my fingers off. I enjoy the people and topics of discussion.

Arnold meant it and so do I. It has been another learning tool and I have made some very good friends. Hopefully, I will be able to help others in their quest for making the ultimate blade for their needs.

I’ve always dug knives going back 10-15 years or more. But not having been exposed to brick and mortar stores showing a wealth of them, I bought here and there of what I liked from a limited selection. Then, some years passed as my knives lay in a drawer. One day, I went to a family party where one generally disliked scaliwag who was to marry a cousin produced some huge out-the-front, and he wasn’t telling where he got it, beause he wanted to be the only guy at the party with the cool knife. That set me off on my quest.

At BladeForums, I learned that the knife world offered much more. As regards my personal possession, autos have since come and gone. I learned about carry laws and how it relates to what I choose to carry. I have entered a strange, new world where everything old is new again, or reinvented for today. I have learned about production knives, custom knives, hammering, tempering, - I don’t know. The list goes on and on. Here, I picked up:

* Information about knives, sharpening, materials and such.
* Unbiased (or biased) reviews.
* Discusssion and points of view.

I have not been here a long time and do not know how nice it was in “the old days.” But, perhaps as time passes, I might reflect back on the way it is now and grouse about “how it was.” Things change as time passes. Fads come in and out. But BladeForums will continue to offer people’s point of view on what will be happening at that future moment in time.

I'll probably be here. I'm not as new to the forums as my number of posts might suggest. I've been reading and learning from these threads for a while now. A lot of very knowledgable people here.

I guess for me, it depends on where my new interests take me. I go through periods of developing new interests at the expense of my other interests. For a while it was computers and computer equipment - I built my own machine. Then recently, before my knife phase kicked in, it was gardening. It may sound wierd to some, but it's very relaxing. Besides, I found a way to abuse some of my Pakistani POS's.

Now, earlier this week I bought a new Beretta 86 Cheetah .380 auto. I can feel a new hobby coming along - guncollecting! Oh no! I've been a hunter most of my life, but now I'm thinking I want to start buying some nicer guns. And I thought this knife hobby was getting expensive!

I don't think I'll ever stop visiting these forums, though.:)
