Wilson Custom Knives- S.A.F.E. System

Emergency reserve is best to keep in the sheath, the sheath on his belt lost only with the lower half of the body and so it is easy to lose with a knife that is much more likely.

Once you try making kydex you will be shaking your head at just how easy it is. I would suggest spacing your holes for a esee molle back just because it offers so much versatility in carrying.

I will eventually give it a try. I just love leather sheaths so much, it's hard get away from them. I know kydex has its place, though. Cut down on weith, bulk, and much faster/cheaper to make. I have heard similar things about spacing before, I will do that when I make some. Thanks, Dave.

That is a very cool knife:thumbup: I agree whole-heartedly with the suggestion of a kydex sheath. Back in the day, leather was the only game in town and I love leather, but it is heavy and requires maintenance. I recall a thread around here about the guy trekking the Amazon. His sheath was mounted with a leather belt attachment (Blind Horse?) and was rotting away. Kydex would compliment your design (lightweight and impervious), while leather seems to contrast with it (heavy and subject to the whims of nature). But, I would always have it as an option as that knife looks great with that sheath! If I were doing this, I'd partner with one of the skilled BF kydex benders to save myself some trouble. Take care.

I like the knife a lot - would have loved to have one while in the Boy Scouts. Just a thought for weight reduction - could you use an aluminum handle tube and guard?

That's a good idea. I may go that route if I wind up with enough requests for kydex. Being impervious to weather is definitely one of its strong suits. And thank you for the compliment.

Thank you, tim. As far as aluminum, I will probably use an aluminum tube on a future model for weight reduction, but prefer steel for balance reasons unless it is a small, thin blade. Also, steel tubes give significantly stronger attachment and construction options. As far as aluminum guards, if I ever did that, I would probably wind up Duracoating them or clearcoating them, due to the dull gray color aluminum takes on when it oxidizes. Many people don't care for that look, but it definitely will make for a lighter knife. Thank you for the suggestions.

Well thought out, great design, good choice of materials... What's not to like?

Nice!!!

Thank you, Matthew. I've been wanting to do a bit of a departure from the typical "Rambo" approach, and this is what I came up with. I appreciate the compliment.

Sam,
Aluminum can be hard anodized any color you want - looks great and will resist scratches. I would suggest either 5083 or 5086 - both are much stronger than 6061.

Tim,
That is something I will have to look at. That would give a lot of color options, an interesting twist. Thank you for the recommendations.

Very nice. I generally don't like hollow handle knives, or even pockets on my sheaths. I prefer to carry a small, flat survival package in a pocket. This is the first hollow handle knife that has ever appealed to me. Something about the proportions, finish, and general " look" just seem right. Your handle attachment system seems very strong and well done also. The only suggestion I would make would be to add a Kydex sheath option for the reasons other posters have already mentioned. Great job on very nice looking, practical knife. I am sure they will sell very well indeed.

why not a leather /kydex combo? Like a kydex lined leather sheath?

My son would want one Sam. As for me I still like the bigger ones! :)

Sam's ideas are like a glass of iced tea on a hot day. Cool and refreshing!

Thanks Ronnie, I appreciate it.

Man that's an awesome little knife, very well done!

Thank you, hazy.

Great looking knife.

I like the compact design.

Thanks BladeScout. We've been missing you in the Hollow Handle Thread. :)
