I know some of you guys like these knives, I don't own one so I can't attest to their quality. However Sportsman's guide sent me an email of their latest sale items and they have a Windlass Steelcrafts coffin hilt bowie with an 11.5 inch blade for $39.99. I know Atlanta Cutlery sells Windlass bowies and they run around $69 to $79

I thought I would post a heads up. Sometimes SG has some really good prices despite their high shipping.

I'm very curious to see what some of you have to say about that knife - It's the first time I've seen it. It's not easy to find a Poor Man's Bagwell Bowie.

I am concerned by the 440C listing. Usually anything made by Windlass is 5160 steel not stainless, unless it is a fantasy piece they are reselling.
Hard to be sure. If it was 5160 I would grab one just to play around with.

I ordered an Ontario SP-18 Frontiersman from BotachTactical.com, but have since heard that Botach is not very reliable with delivery and customer service - delivery has not happened yet - should have had it late last week. I'll cross my fingers and say some prayers, but I don't think they have it in stock.

I just noticed at the bottom of that link that "Bowie knives cannot be shipped to FLA." WTH is up with that?! When did we turn into a socialist commiefornia state?

Back in the mid-19th Century, many Southern states outlawed the carrying of Bowie knives as they were "the weapon that would end society as we know it" at that time, just as "assault weapons"(sic) are that today. The press of the day was full of horror stories of mayhem resulting from Bowie knife fights and the public was demanding action, so the politicos acted. The fact that the laws were passed about the time that the Colt revolver was making the Bowie obsolete just added to the irony.

Hey fella I hate to tell you but you've slipped BELOW Califorinia. We can still get bowie knives here.
