So we're still snowed in. I've cleared o ur driveway but the roads are bad enough even my university, a town away, that doesn't close for anything is in fact closed.

So I thought I'd try and put some of this time to use and make it into a competition as well.

One of the great things about JK knives is being able to design your own perfect knife. So I though I'd try to encourage some designs.

Knives of all shapes and sizes are welcome ( and maybe even some hatchets and hawks if john agrees.)

You have a to be legally allowed to own and have the knife shipped to you to enter.

John stops taking orders at the the end of this month so that's our deadline. We don't have time for polls and random change doesn't make sense so I'll pick the other winners. A little subjective but I'll do my best.

The prize is that I'll pay half the cost of the knife from john. I'll also chose a runner up who I'll offer to put a handle and sheath on their knife for free, so they only have to buy the blank from john if they want it.

The winners will have to commit to paying for half the knife or the blank so if you can't say so in your post (maybe I'll be able to drum up another prize to make it worth it ;))

Winner will also have to cut their knife design out of cardboard and send it to john.

I'll be posting some ideas to but I obviously won't pixk my own :)

Feel free to post multiple ideas and brainstorm in this thread.

So get drawing and have fun with it!

This right here is pretty much my grail for EDC. Its blade is under 3 inches so no possible legal issues even if I need to cover the handle and sheath with my shirt in non knife friendly areas or where it may make people to uncomfortable. It has a full size handle with sufficient swell to be able to keep a good grip. A nonthreatening wharncliffe style blade, yet one that still has a tip for any piercing and a full flat grind for good slicing. Also it has micarta handles and brass hardware which over time takes on a personality of its own.

I'm not snowed in (53 degrees and sunny) but I'd like to give this a try later this week when I get a bit of free time. I always have ideas but I have never actually tried to draw them out, should be fun to try. Thanks for the interesting contest.

I've had that exact picture bouncing around in my head for about six months now. I'm still not 100% solid on Mr. Kiedaisch's pricing scale so I don't know how much it would cost but I really appreciate the opportunity.

I kind of go another way with design, I have some ideas and end up drawing a lot of sketches instead of just one and tweek and adjust as I look at it

lots of ideas about different projects so far

working on how a stick tang works

Aplling some of it

some HK ideas

ideas for a project of mine

On a stick tang always put a radius where the tang meets the blade, avoid sharp corners.

Here is one from customer TB, a custom Element (He designed the tanto you all have seen, with the kirinite handles) He can`t post because of his email address.

Having some second thoughts about how I'm designing this stick tangs...inspired by the crooked creek I up-sized the second picture in the collection I posted before by cutting out a blank and sketching and re-sketching around it. But I'm not sure I should plan for the top of the ricasso to meet the top of the handle so perfectly, seems destined to fail.

This was my entry in an earlier JK design contest. I held onto it thinking I would order one some
day. It's my vision of a JK Puukko. The tang slightly extends the handle in case you would need to
tap on the knife. I keep going back and forth on the thickness but know John's heat treat can make
1/8" steel take some unbelievable hard use. I also thought about making it a straight back but dropped
the tip a little to get it closer to the center line of the knife.

that's beautiful fishiker, I really like john's traditional style knives as well, nice one!

Got some cut out's going last night as well

Scandi grind with micro-bevel, 1/8" O1. Scales kept nice and slim. Pin and lanyard tube placement subject to expert opinion.

A couple more I sketched out.

By the way, thank you KYenglish for starting this thread and contest. I've had a blast drawing knives; not something I ever thought I'd spend time doing.

Thanks YoungCurmudgeon, that's how I started, didn't think i'd do it,t hen a contest here got me drawing, you have come up with some very nice knives there, thanks for joining in!
