Fun giveaway, Kevin! I had a lot of fun trying to guess the member from the Buck forum.

I was scouring the 2018 forum knife threads and member's profiles for three days trying to figure out who it was. Thought I had it right twice but it was hidden deeper than I knew. Awesome challenge!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I did some brief research on the Continental knife that you're giving away. I had never heard of the brand and I was surprised to find that its roots might trace back to the original Northfield Knife Company and that Continental Cutlery only made knives for a few years. Neat stuff and a real treasure of a knife.

You are correct Railsplitter... Alfred Field & Co was one of the United States largest importers of knives around the turn of the 20th century. They brought in knives from hundreds of cutlers around England (Sheffield) and Germany (Solingen) and sorted them into groups by quality. The Continental Cutlery brand was their second most expensive line of knives behind their Joseph Rodgers & Sons imports, which is pretty good company to be in ;) A. Field & Co was the strongest opposition to the McKinley Tariffs that eventually passed in 1890; these tariffs were the beginning of the end for many importers and eventually A. Field & Co fell victim. The Continental Cutlery name is a bit hard to follow once it left Alfred Field, it may have ties to Robeson and Goins speculates that the name was part of Clark Brothers of Kansas City whom eventually bought Northfield Knife Company in 1919 and operated until 1929 when they declared bankruptcy. The actual path of Continental is unclear but they are a part of knife history nonetheless :) The knife is really awesome and whomever wins it will be impressed! :D

Ironically the AW Wadsworth knife was a product of the import craze as well and was an import brand from A Kastor & Bros, who was likely the largest importer at the time. A Kastor & Bros eventually changed their name to Camillus Cutlery Company in the early 1900s, I think we've all heard of them :D

Thank you to everyone that participated... kudos to you for making it so fun!:D:thumbsup: I was a bit worried that I bit off more than I could chew and created a complicated monster but it thrills me to hear all the positive feedback on my first GAW :) Seeing all of the names that were "guessed" made me realize how reaching our community is and it really humbled me to see the amount of people that I have interacted with on an almost daily basis... thank you to all of the fellow Porch sitters and to those who peeked in from the Buck forum, I tip my hat to you :)
