I have a couple of Barlow knives that I'm going to offer up as giveaways to start off 2008.

Each of the knives will go to separate homes for a worthy young person as their "first" knife.

The wrinkle is that you will only be selected as a "winner" if you are a contributing "regular" on THIS sub-forum. (So those of you who only participate on the forum for the chance of winning a giveaway, now's not your time to enter as you won't be selected.)

Neither knife is new but both are in good condition and are ready for carry.
One is a Camillus. The other an Imperial (Ireland).

Please don't enter if you don't have a deserving young son, daughter, niece, nephew or child of a close friend in mind.

All that's necessary to enter is to post here. You can add any remarks you wish but they aren't required.

My wife will help me figure out a good way to select the winners in the next day or two.

Good luck and think of the children!

Have a son that would take good care of one of those. Thanks for the opportunity!!

Edited my post after re-reading. I'm slow!! In any event my son has a new knife roll that I handed down and I think there might be a spot for one of these guys.

One of those Barlows would make a great starter knife for my daughter. She thinks Daddy's pocket knives are soooooooooo cool. She loves to watch me sharpen my knives, cut stuff open and peel her an apple. I'm sure she'd get a kick out of having her own pocket knife.

Thanks for the opportunity........and have a Happy New Year!

I have a nephew 'bout 12 years old that would enjoy one of those nice Barlow's. You have a good spirit!

My kids already have their first. Their second, third...

Just wanted to say darn nice of ya Blues. Ya just don't get this type of behavior outside the slipjoint/classic knives group.

Blues,
Agree with Rup, quite a nice offer on your part.

I "would" submit my 13 y/o nephew that live out of state.
Young man wrote an Essay on Patriotism and won.
His essay was submitted for multiple contests and the young man won $50, $100, and then $200.

Now, a gentleman came to his school to "find out who this guy is that beat my daughter in this Essay contest".

"Sir, I really feel your daughter wrote a better essay than I". - Nephew replied.

Gentleman offered nephew a job. Matters for Nephew and his sibs are not the best...
Still Nephew has some talents and interests and this Gentleman is into Construction, of all facets, and Nephew is getting some great Mentoring.

Seems all the guys and gals only use Slipjoints, nobody is using tactical or razor blade knives...

I got to see this Nephew and his sibs and ...well...
He has some "real" carbon steel slipjoints now that were mine... and he was totally blown away when I gave him "that" Norton India Oil Stone.

Blues,
Thank you for doing this, perhaps another niece, nephew, out there could really use and appreciate a Barlow.

Regards,

Steve

I think one of those would make a great first knife for my son. Or possibly my nephew (sister's oldest son, because they won't ever get him a knife)

thanks for the contest.

Thanks guys, I very much appreciate the kind words. Just trying to return a little of the generosity and good fortune that's come my way over the years.

I can still remember as a young 7 or 8 year old when my grandfather presented me with my first small slipjoints.

Be nice to bring a similar smile to some youngster's face.

I have a daughter, and another one on the way, so these knives would be awesome starter knives, one for one kid, one for the other (oh wait, no, they are each going to different homes. LOL). Anyway, great giveaway, Blues. One of the many things I LOVE about this forum, not that there are giveaways all the time, but that the giveaways have such meaning behind them. Happy New Year's to all.

very generous....my son is still to young, 18 mos perhaps I'll try for another later but for now just wanted to wish everyone good luck. and give kudos to blues for such a nice guesture.

This is not a contest entry. I just wanted to praise two good men. Obadiah Barlow and Blues. Obadian who some say manufactured the first one around 1670 and Blues who gave a couple away 338 years later.

Very nice of you Blues, To give away some nice knives on a very nice forum. My two sons are set up very well with knives. So I hope some young person gets them less fortunate than my sons. Happy New Year to all........Mike

I have a 7 year old who has one knife which I gave him (I ground the edge off and just let him carry it around) He has misplaced the one I gave him and has been asking me for another. This would make a fine knife for him to learn the proper responsibilities of handling a "real" knife.

They remind me of the ones that my Dad will sometimes pull out of his top dresser drawer. I've got an almost 10 yr old who'd love one, but I'm not sure I qualify. I think most of my meager posts are on the General and Wilderness sub-forums. Either way, some kid's going to be blessed!!

My first post here in the forum. I hope its a good one!

What are you going to do.. ;) They are every where ..:grumpy:

Blues, some of the other folks beat me to it.. But I too wanted to thank you for setting up this fine and well thought out contest for the kids that are so dear in our lives..

Please remove this post #20 from the contest drawing as every young'n I know, whether, son, daughter, niece, nephew, kids friends, ect.. ect.. has received a knife from me at one time or another. I just wanted to chime in to let you know you kind act is appreciated..

GOOD LUCK to all the children!
