Here's a pic of the knife I'm taking on this trip for testing. 8670 steel, lignum vitae scales. This is the first Tusker with a forward lanyard.

Scott, When you are done with it, just feel free to send it here and I will complete it's education....or die trying! :D:D:D

After spending a couple of days in the Catskill area on a scouting expedition we have decided to move the Winter trip to Pennsylvania. We will be posting more info soon but it looks like we will be around Hamburg, PA. Same time just different place.

From speaking with Marty yesterday, it was the terrain and the lack of parking. Very little open area to practice our type of camping and everywhere you looked it was a steep cliff. Parking was along a major road or well-traveled road. No parking lots despite write ups claiming there is a spot. Maybe they exist in the Summer but not enough room for 14 plus cars now.

From what we are planning on another forum, it looks like this trip will be closer to Cabela's in Harrisburg, PA on or near a portion of the AT. We will hike in and camp in an area with plenty of blown down trees and enough room to set up a variety of shelters. Right now, it still looks like the turn out will be pretty high and it should be a great gathering of woodsbums with different skills sets. A few guys going have been to this site before and know it first hand. I'd take that first-hand knowledge over a hunch anytime!

I will be posting the details for this trip probably on Monday the 24th. We still have at least 13 going with room for a few more.

Looks like we have almost 20 people going. Can't wait for this trip.

The count now could be 24. We might have to register as a militia.

As of this morning we have 27 folks who have said they will be or want to go. We never know until the actual day of the trip but so far this looks like the largest group get-together yet.

This trip is getting bigger and bigger. We have over 30 people interested in going now. I hope everyone shows! If anyone else wants to come, you are welcome!

Well Guys,
After from hearing from quite a few of you I guess this will be the plan. We will meet between 8-10AM at the SKYVIEW Diner Saturday the 19th. Anyone arriving late can follow the directions below. Following is Harpoons directions:
Skyview Resturant on rt. 737. It's off 78 at exit 40. Either way you come in you can't miss it. It's right off of 78, head south on 737 for maybe 50 YARDS and it's across the road from a Shell gas station. The camping area is off 78 onto rt. 143 [Lenhartsville] at exit 35. Head North on 143 for about 5 miles till you come to Hawk Mtn. Rd. There's a small Sunoco station right at the intersection. Turn left onto Hawk Mtn. Road and head towards the hills for approx. 6 miles. The road winds through some farm country until you hit the edge of the timber. We can park on both sides of the road but there are some cabins up in there and we have to be respectful so as to not block access. You'll see the AT trail signs on both sides. We will be heading North on the trail, to the right as you come up the road. The hike in is not what I'd consider too taxing but it's enough to make you reconsider humping 3 of everything along.
So far about 12 of us are coming in Friday the 18th and staying in the area, Most will be at the Microtel Inn in Hamburg, PA. Our plan is to invade Cabelas that night, eat a good meal and then rest up for the camping trip.
Anything I may have left out or any other questions please feel free to e-mail me wlcwe@localnet.com

For anyone going from this site, I have some nice quality Topo maps that I just printed on a new color printer. If you want one, just let me know your address and I'll drop one in the mail for you. I have a dozen or so.

Latest Update,
WOW, it looks like we have well over 40 people going on this trip. I can't believe how many folks are going. It should be one heck of a good gathering. Still have room for more.
