Winter Freebie - WORLDWIDE

coote won for primitive pork! The other two didn't count, and I didn't read them -- but I will, the glance through looked good :)

MacHete won for a grand adventure. I spent a long cold night in my mind with Norman, I know cats, maybe I'll tell you about marty some day.

Ankar Sheng told a great story about the forests we wouldn't have to enjoy without the effort he made to preserve them. It's also one of the most dangerous jobs around.

kgd didn't win, his wife did! She should get the fourth knife. Wife or fish ... wife or fish ... wife or fish ... ya bum! :D

If I had a few more to give out for this contest, Talfuchre -- naahhh, his boys -- and pitdog would have gotten them ... I'll have to remember them for next time.

Ahw Esav, she's going to hold me to that quote now too!!!! Even after I saved her from the dreaded frozen metal pole trap...(survival tip - this is another reason why you should carry a flask of whiskey in your pack).

I agree that the choices were hard. I was also moved by Ankar's description of humping those hoses through the muskeg. Tough stuff and dedicated man. Special thanks to him for his service to preserve the wilds we so much enjoy!

Here's what's happening. I went through all the stories, went through them again with my clipboard making notes, a couple were so outstanding they got circled at that point, went through the clipboard list again and circled a few more ... a lot of good stories, well told, great pictures.

I can't pick two, I ended up winnowing them down to four. In order, coote, MacHete, Ankar Sheng, and kgd.

In addition to the Koster bushcraft and the BRK&T Gameskeeper, I'm adding a BRK&T Wolf River and a BRK&T Mikro Canadian.

I will email each of the winners in order, as each lets me know which knife he would like.

Congrats to all the winners, some great reading there !!!!

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Ok, now that I've regained my composure after being giddy with excitement for at least 5 minutes.

THANK YOU ESAV! You just made my Christmas doubly merry!

Give me a few more minutes to wipe this stupid grin from my face and maybe I'll think of something more to say :D:D:D

Merry Christmas Esav and all my WSS bro's!!

*crosses finger for koster buschraft*

Very nice! Thanks to Esav for the wonderful contest, and kudos to all who submitted. Congratulations to the winners.

Congratulations to all the winners! great pics and stories. they have inspired me and definitely have to start taking pictures..:D:D... hope there are more contest like this one.

...Or at least you liked my story. :p

Wow! Thanks Esav! I honestly thought mine was among the lamest submissions posted. There were some great posts and great pics, and I would love to hear about Marty sometime.

Congrats to all, and thank you again for a very fun and extremely generous contest! :)

Well it was 8.30 am on Christmas Morning down here at the bottom of the planet when I opened my email and read the good news from Esav. Who cares if I only got Jockeys and sox from the family!!!

It is thrilling to think that a knife of 'my dreams' will soon be making the long journey to the South Pacific. I preach that a sharp rock or shell is enough to do many wilderness jobs, but dang I have a secret longing to own, fondle and gaze at knives of this caliber.

We have some great knives in New Zealand, but to me the home of knives is the USA. I've spent hours drooling over the pictures and reading about them.

There is something about a good knife. I think it can be a symbol of our relationship to the earth, and a remnant of the life-supporting technology of our ancestors. Not many of us hunt to live nowadays ..... neither to we have to carve shelter from the wilderness. But the mystique and power of a good blade lives on.

Bladeforums is one of my favorite places to hang out, and this latest development really adds to that. It is great to read about the real experiences of interesting people.

Best wishes to all.......... Stephen Coote

PS: I chose the BRK&T Gameskeeper. It is likely that this will be the most 'classy' knife I will ever own.

I got Stephan's email so I'll get his Gameskeeper labelled and ready to go, and I emailed MacHete to get his choice & his address, then I can let Ankar Sheng know which knives remain.

That Gameskeeper is a fine knife. Coote - your post was real touching. It is cool that you will appreciate it so much - unlike KGD, who practically STOLE the winning knife from me! ;)

(Can you smell the jealousy coming though?)

Stephen, make sure you post pics when you get it and get a chance to use it.

Esav, I received and replied to your email. Norman feels that a Koster will greatly enhance his survival prospects should he ever find himself in a similar situation. We'll post pics of him with it after it arrives. :D

Thanks again!

Actually, I think he deliberately pushed his wife into the lake, just to make a better story.

Nah, it was all the toothy pike's doing. Gotta admit though, being as cold as she was, really motivated her to chop extra wood for the fire :D:D:D

(kidding of course)

I know you are kidding. Chopping wood is a mans work. But she better have made you a sammich or two - or it is BACK in the lake she goes!

Norman received his Koster Bushcrafter from Esav earlier this week. Thank you again, Esav, for the awesome contest and great prizes! Below are Norm's initial reactions to his new knife.
