WIP fighter for VIVA LA

ya know...i was going to start a new thread but I may as well ask here. I want to give a try at making my own knife, just simple stuff with 1080 or something cuz i was told its good for beginners. ...my question is this...I have access to used canola oil from deep fryers at work. It isn't TOO bad, we change it like every three days. Can I use this for quenching or does the oil have to be like...nice and new?

i wouldnt be afraid to use the old oil.... for years i used old motor oil and desil fuel i wouldnt recomend that mix the smoke is extreamly combustable dont ask me how i know:eek: canolia oil is what i use on my W2 and 1084 blades...supposed to be parks 50...the wood came in yesterday afternoon so ill be fitting the handle today

here i have the wood cut and polished on the front end before i glue it to the tang

What a cool knife as well as a cool thread! Lon, it was a pleasure meeting you at Blade. I still dig that shoulder rig you had goin' with the sub hilt.

That turned out great! A true custom brought to life very quickly indeed. Thanks for sharing the process with us and congrats to the new owner.
