WIP Filipino fighter

I examined this blade and sheath Wednesday. It is an outstanding job.
Chris is definitely talented.

I remember ,last year, telling him to take a step back and learn a little before tackling the big jobs, like swords. Well, he didn't listen....and he sure showed all of us old geezers what he can do. I can't wait for Chris to get a couple more years under his belt. He may stun us all with his creative ability.

Chris Moss is stunning some of us already!:D

hey everybody!
sorry it has been so long in coming.. but i am one step away from the whole thing being finished... i need to give the blade a final rub-down and polish.
the sheath came out VERY curly looking and i cant begin to do it justice in a picture. it is like curly tiger maple. the sheath has been coated with the west systems epoxy and then waxed.

i am going to do some stippling on the sheath to match the handle, i just havent decided where yet. do you think that would be overkill?

I think you should leave it as is, but IF you do it, I would do it on short side of the tip of the sheath to contrast to two parts. Gorgeous piece, you should be very proud!

I think the patterns vary enough that the matching isn't needed. However, like I said, the tip would be my choice (and maybe one of the carved runners down the side) just to show the depth of the pattern. I do think the sheath is plain in comparison, BUT (I like caps sometimes) if you look at the package as a whole with the "flower" being on the butt end of the blade and "stem" being the handle and sheath, I think it works very well.

Excellent end result Chris. I don't think you could go wrong either way. It would look good with a little sheath stippling, but it will also look just as good without, so it's a coin flip!

Looks fantastic Chris! I would leave the sheath the way it is without adding additional stippling. That's just my personal preference though... :) Again, nice job!

I rarely post here, mainly lurk, but that has to be congratulated! If I ever make anything remotely as spectacular as that I'll die a happy man! Very well thought out and executed Chris.

As for the extra stipling? Hmmm? I wouldn't be game coz it looks so sweet already. Maybe one of the two strips on the underside. It might be a bit much with any more. Your judgment is as good as anyone's though.

 Moss your work is amazing. The only change I'd make is the micarta, I'd have used horn, bone or antler. and that is just becuase I prefer those materials over synthetics. Outstanding man seriously.

Sleep on it, Sweetie. You will know when it is finished.
Is it already spoken for?

hey sheila!
I still havent decided... not something you can really undo. i am thinking maybe the middle "stripe"
so far, the knife is not spoken for, and will prolly go up for sale soon.
thanks so much!

Hey Chris maybe you can try it out in photoshop. Might give you a good idea of how it could look with the texture?

+10 Very nice work. Work like that is not just a blade from a Knifemaker but a sign of an artisan.

Chris,

I wouldn't do anything more to the sheath. Let the wood speak for itself.

Keep up the good work,
Ed M
