Hey fellas,
Thought I would post a few work in progress pics.
Sambar stag scales with 0-1 fittings.
There was going to be ten blind pins, but I ended up only using eight.
Comments and critique always welcome.;)
Thanks for looking.
Mace

Notice the upset edges that need to be sanded flat again.

An estimate of ten thousand hammer blows for the frame.

Very nice, but I'm lost: why the edges are upset, why thousand hammer blows needed??? Sorry I'm sure there is an obvious reason but I have no clue of those frame handles ...

Look'n good Mace!!! Even though I have to call bullshit on your 10,000 hammer blows. I'm going to say 2753 tops!!! ;) :p

Very cool, and I'm really looking forward to seeing it all done!!!

Oh, and I'll give #63 a spin for the win!!! :D

Oh now I get it :o (silly me !!) I assumed hammering was a functional method, not for texture. Thanks for sharing this Sir...

man i love that knife!! only did one of those frame handles, but there very nice knives.

Looks good Mace. Cant wait to see more. Is that blade san mai?

What is that setup are you holding your work with?

Thanks for sharing
Brian

Son of a beach my arm is sore just thinkin about all them hammer blows! That is going to be on sharp piece when finished. :o Pun intended! Can't wait to see the final result.
I would love to see a pic of the handle frame on the knife without the Sambar Stag scales in place to see more about how you fitted the whole thing together.

Hey Mace, sweet looking knife!
How are you attaching the handle package on the tang?

Thanks for the nice comments guys!:D

Brian, I was waiting for someone to ask about the blade....good eye!
The blade is a five layer construction.

Sorry Dixie...Of course I didn't take a whole lot of WIP picks.:o
But I did take a couple of pics tonight of the finished knife.;)
(Still working on figuring out the light box:()

The blade is made up of a 1084 core in between layers of 15n20 and then wrought iron(dug from a river bank in Vermont), fittings are 0-1, sambar stag w/NS pins.
Will try and get some better pics in the next couple of days....and....make a sheath.;)
Thanks for looking!:D

That baby turned out sweeeeeeeeeet!

Now I hesitate to ask this because I mean this in no way as a derogitory remark but , I have got to ask "why"!

Why a framed tang or handle instead of a solid/or full tang handle? I mean it is obvious to me that this a harder process than a hidden tang or thru tang or even a full tang handle.

So what is the advantage to the method? Remember I am still learning so that's why I don't ask dumb questions, because "the only dumb question is the one you failed to ask"!
