Like I said a page or two back, the one shown first finished from the start is mine.
Paul Long made a nice black cowhide sheath for it.
Told Nathan that I would review it on BFC, so will share my initial impressions.
1. This is more utility fighter than fighter. It's very light...it weighs 7.3 oz, and the POB is right at the first screw. My preferences for blade weight, length and POB have been informed by my own experiences and then sharing data with Joe Paranee, Sifu Kelly Worden, my Sensei and other blade "aware" people.
2. I like a little more weight forward for snap cuts....this knife CAN snap cut, but it requires a lot more "touch" with the pinky and ring finger than a "pure" fighter.
3. The fit and finish are without peer....it is just about perfect.
4. Like most knifemakers and ALL machinists that I have known, the spine and "guard" are at a perfect, slightly "broken" ninety degree angle. It's too sharp at these areas, leading to hot spots and fatigue on the part of the user.....little more broken edges would be beneficial.
5. The design is without fault AS a Utility-Fighter....the ergonomics once the above issue is addressed are superlative and it is SHARP....hair popping, convex edged "wound is there before they know it" kind of sharp....10 of 10 sharp.
6. I'm not selling this ever....for the type of knife that I consider it....would use it in a heartbeat....glad that I don't have to and it can remain the sweet little treasure that it is....Elmax is an impressive steel.
7. I will be watching Nathan Carothers very carefully for future offerings and you should as well. The value is tremendous and what he is doing is competent, creative and completely worth owning and useable, as opposed to many "flavor of the month" knifemakers that have inflated priced offerings and are a pain in the ass to deal with.
