Wip

Update. I got some handle material in this week. I drilled the tang and roughed out a bow drill pivoot and some hardware on the lathe last nigh. I'm hoping to get the scales drilled and do a rought shape and fit to try and balace the knife before It gets heat treated. I've also decided to go for the heat treat myself. Todays first order of buisness will be to hunt down a torch and some fire bricks.

Get a pyrometer from auberins or even harbour freight. You will need 10 firebricks to make a minimally serviceable forge. I used one temporarily, with 1/4" steel on the floor above the fire brick, and I could get a good vortex with careful torch placement. It was finicky, but once I got the angles and placement of the brick worked out, I could hold temps within +/- 5*f. It's not the easiest way to go though, and is the minimum that will work with anything that needs a soak time of more than two minutes.

I watched that video, and there wasn't any heat control, the volume of quenchant seemed low, and judging temp by color is not a good way to go about this.
