Wire clips, good or bad?

I noticed that Spyderco is going to more and more wire clips on their knives, what do you think about them?

I haven't made up my mind 100% but it seems like it is much weaker than the old all metal clips they used. I can take the wire clips and bend them in my fingers from side to side with little effort. I haven't had one come off the knife yet but they just feel like they will.

Any word on if they are better or worse? I am sure they are much cheaper but is it worth it?

I hate them and will not buy another knife with one.Its a shame too because I really like the UK Penknife.

Dare I ask why you hate them?
I just bought the DK Pen Knife yesterday, which also has the wire clip. It appears to be pretty good...I like the fact that it makes the knife sit almost invisible in the pocket.

They're tough, durable, low ride and very lowkey. Plus if they snag and bend (hard to believe considering how tough they are) you can grab a length of wire and rebend a new one without needing to wait for a new one to be shipped from W&R.

They are indeed very strong but...
My Native III sits in it's box because of it's wire clip. I love the knife, but hate wire clip. To me it just seems "cheap" & looks... I'll probably pass on any wire clipped Spydies too. :(

OTOH...
The new clips on the Adventura/Endura/Delica are great! Now if they were only beadblasted with a little black Spydie on 'em ;)

If you ware your knife as I do, in the waist band with the clip under the belt, then any clip will do. If you tend to be hard on your clip, then a wire clip might not your cup of tea.
I like the wire clip because it bites less into my hand while using. The knives I have in wire are Dodo, D'Allara, UKPK. With the UKPK low ride clip being my fav.

I love them and think they are much more comfortable in the hand when using the knife. I would preferre that most of their knives have the wire clips, and I don't care how cool-looking the pocket clip on my knife is.

I won't buy it if does not have a wire clip. I have marred the surfaces of my car due to regular clip. Regular clips seem to wear out pants pocket. Wire clip has rounded edges. They are more discrete and seem to lend themselves better to deep carry.

I love the wire clip. Too bad that none of my favorite Spyderco designs have them. :grumpy:

Well, the wire clip that is on my UKPK is AWESOME!! It rides low in the pocket too!! I think that it is excellent.

I like the wire clip on small knives, but for anything larger than a Caly Jr it's not a good idea.

A Paramilitary, or even a Manix with a wire clip would just be ridiculous...

My favorite aspect of the wire clip is its snag-resistance. The completely rounded edges keep it from bending on stuff while in my pocket, a characteristic that offsets their inherent structural weakness. Like said, they are fine for smaller knives; I like the way my Dodo works. Perhaps on larger knives, a thicker wire would be better? If not, I would like to see the terminal end(non-screw) of standard clips thickened a bit, so that they are more easily rounded like the edges of the wire clips.

I like the wire clips. Contrary to some, I think they actually improve the looks of a knife instead of cheapen them. I wish Spyderco offered them on more knives!

I love the wire clip, possibly my fave! But I agree about larger knives, it might not work out too well.

I like wire clips. The low profile beauty on my UKPK just disappears when I clip it on. I need to bend the tip down on it though. It sticks up too high and can scratch whatever I get too close to.

I really like the wire clips I have on a number of my Spydercos. They are a lot stronger than they look, they are generally very low profile and don't scratch wooden chairs or car paing.

smcfalls13 may have a point about they're use on larger knives, but they haven't been a problem for me yet.

I like them. I'm not sure just how much more they cost to make though. My UKPK had the misfurtune to be in my pocket when I got knocked off my push bike and got scraped against the road. Uklike most pocket clips it doesn't seem to make a difference to the looks that it has got scratches at the end.
