My 48 year old son, Kenneth is undergoing a heart valve replacement surgery in the morning at 7AM. Although he hasn't received the membership package as of today, he is a new Life Member of the BCCI and may start visiting this forum during his recovery. He already has a pretty good starter collection of Buck knives and will end up with all of mine someday.

We're all looking forward to getting this behind us so that he can resume his normally very active life. Please wish us and especially Ken good luck. It's going to be a long stressful day for this old man and the rest of Ken's family. :(

Dave, Rest assured our prayers and thoughts will be with you and your son. Hope all goes well with the procedure and he bounces back in a timely manner. I wish for you steadfastness being the pillar of the family. I'll be checking in with you as time permits. Remember we're all standing by to offer encouragement. Best wishes, DM

Dave, I'm sending up smoke from Oregon for you, your son, and all of your other family members.

When I read this, it really caught my attention. Your son is only 2 years younger than I am. I hope he has a quick recovery, and can get back to a normal life soon.
Blade Forums can be a great pass time, as well as therapeutic when recovering from surgery.

Dave, my best wishes and thoughts with you my friend, and especially your son Ken.
I too need a Heart operation, my Aorta valve needs replacing as well as my over sized Aorta itself, its real scary..especially when you wake at 2.00 am and the reality sets in...I will think of you and Ken.

Ken...take your time, do the exercise that your surgeon tells you to do- and dont over do it.... good luck to you all.
Please... let us know how Ken is doing.

Michael, my brother in law, got his heart surgery two weeks before Christmas.
At least he was at home to spend the holidays with the family. No problems.
I wish Kenneth that the operation goes as well as Michael's. My thoughts are with
Kenneth and you, Dave, and all the concerned family members.

Herbert

Hi Dave
All the best for you and Ken. Be positive!
My father in law, got his heart surgery 2 month ago.
And now he's doing well

Two of my siblings have had valve replacements that went very well. Best wishes. Tony

You have my wish for luck.

Luck is already on his side. He has a world-class father.

My 48 year old son, Kenneth is undergoing a heart valve replacement surgery in the morning at 7AM.

Prayers are with you.

Be prepared for the possibility of your son dealing with a significant period of depression in the months that follow. A very close friend (valve replacement) and my wife (cauterization procedure for irregular rhythm) both struggled with this. The irony was that there were "better" but emotionally felt much worse. By buddy Bruce had warned us of the possibility and our understanding is that this is quite common for people who've had heart surgery of some sort. It seems that the heart has an emotionally significant meaning and heart surgery raises questions about our mortality in ways that other (equally important) organs don't. Knowing that the depression might hit and that it was a normal expect aspect of heart surgery recovery helped my wife. Still was a rough patch, but it was an expected rough patch, not a "I must be nuts for feeling this way" rough patch.

Please post updates.

Prayers ent from our family to yours Plum, and i'm sure everything will turn out fine, our friend had this replacement 2 years ago and he is 70 now,and says he feels like he did at 40,he takes walks ,excercises regularly and says he is very happy having had the surgery. If you get too stressed out ,take a buck whittler with you and whittle some popcicle sticks, this worked for me when the wife was airlifted to the hospital with pregnancy issues,i made a mess on the floor but it relieved a huge amount of stress.BEST OF LUCK!

Looking forward to the good news of a successful operation. Said a prayer for your son.
