Wish us luck tomorrow.

Thanks once more to everyone. I just visited Ken and although very very tired, he seems to be on the way to recovery. He will leave the ICU and move to a regular room this evening.

I'd like to say a special thanks to David and Leesa Martin. Leesa is not only a fantastic artist, she's just a dynamite baker too! I received a cheering up package from them yesterday that contained a huge loaf of her FANTASTIC home made bread. I'm about to have my second 1" thick slice, slathered in butter, toasted and drenched in honey. That will bring a smile back to anyone's face I guarantee!

I hope I have the will power to freeze the rest of the loaf so that Ken can enjoy it when he gets home next week.

A million thanks David and Leesa.

Thank you Dave for the kind words.
Yet, please don't hold back, go ahead and eat it all. We'll send you another one next week for Ken. I'm not volunteering Leesa's cooking here, she just told me to tell
you that. We all want to help in some little way toward a fellow collectors (Ken's) recovery. Your welcome, David & Leesa

Thanks everyone again. I'm heading to the hospital in an hour or so to bring Ken home. He's not on the top of his game, but he's progressing nicely and he's REALLY ready to get out of there.

Great news Dave. Best wishes toward his continued recovery at home. Guess there we no cute nurses at that place. Thanks, for being a great Father during all this. DM

Thanks David, but his girlfriend Carla should get all the praise for being so good during this. You seldom found her far from his side, and when I say we are bringing him home, I mean to say to Carla's home.

As a matter of fact, there were several cute nurses there, and that just MAY be the reason Carla was so eager to get him out of there and home! ;)

Dave,

Best to you, your son Ken, Carla, and your entire family circle.

A while back my wife developed an "inoperable" form of cancer. She is a super healthy, very fit person that had an extremely rare form of cancer return after 3 1/2 yrs. Docs told us: "You may die, and it will likely happen very quickly". She had other ideas, we found a surgeon in Boston and after a lengthy ordeal, she is now "cancer free" and she volunteers helping others in similar circumstances. I always hated it when folks reacted with stories of how they or someone they knew got through some medical scenario and "everything is ok now". I came to realize that this was simply a way to try and reach out to someone else with the only tools a person had. Last weekend we returned from Boston with nothing but good news from the various teams of docs that are involved in her follow up. Almost 3 years since the surgery, and I still have to repeat "cancer free" several times a day.

I did learn one thing: not only are people strong, but the kindness and caring of others all around them goes a long way in their recovery. Good thoughts to you and yours are coming from VT.

harly, I'm sorry to hear the issues that you and your wife faced, but I'm very happy at how it's worked out!

I took Ken to Carla's yesterday and I'm delighted with how he's doing. He was walking around his room at the hospital unaided even by a walker and got dressed to leave with just a bit of help. He's able to get up and down off the couch by hmself and walks back and forth to the bathroom as he feels the need with no help. He just called me and said they had taken a short walk outside in the sunshine and he felt a little tired but enjoyed it.

His pain management is working well and he just sounds great on the phone, so I feel he's really on his way.

They do wonders on these heart surgeries these days.

I will have to get a valve corrected one of these days (they say) but it's working fine now and since I'm just a young kid of 65 they figure they'll do it later.

No rush, I'll do it when I'm an old man......I'd hate to go through all the trouble of heart surgery only to be shot by some jealous husband.

:D

How's the family doing Dave?

Kinda renews my faith in mankind to see people come together when someone faces a real life challenge. Does the ol'soul good.

I'm happy to report that all is going very well and thank you for asking. Ken is up and around on his own and even had me drive him to town to buy a couple of model airplanes to build while he's recouping. We stopped and had lunch while we were out and anyone who didn't know what he'd had done would not have a clue by looking at him.

This is a great report. Thanks, Dave.
Working on a model airplane will be a very good activity while recuperating.
Best wishes, DM
