Wish you like a knife or brand but can't

only one that comes to mind i wish i could like but cant, is strider.

well....i guess emerson a little bit too

Medford Knives, I just don't really feel anything when I see them. I know they are probably super tough, but the aesthetics and ergonomics don't work for me.

That explains it, slacks are tough too. You are in luck, the 0770 is on the way soon.

I'm there what ya...

I love overbuilt folders as much as the next guy, maybe more, but after seeing some of the Medford knives (no offense intended, I'm certain they're strong as Hell) I have to wonder what company will be the first to start using 1/4" thick Ti frame scales (if it hasn't already been done) with a 1/2" thick blade for their titanium framelock.

There seems to be a race to see who can make the thickest, heaviest and most overbuilt framelock, overbuilt is great but not at the sake of function. No, I'm NOT saying that Medford's aren't functional, Hell I'd take on in a heartbeat though I doubt I'd ever try to carry it in my front jeans pocket and believe me, I don't have some 4oz limit for my EDC's. I simply have to wonder how much thicker and heavier this race to make the stoutest Ti framelock will take us...remember back when a Strider SMF seemed to be overbuilt?

My SMF is starting to look more and more like a gentleman's folder. :p

I feel the same way. The only Ti frame locks that interest me are the Spyderco Military and Domino. I simply don't care for these super beefy Ti frame lock folders - I see them as a silly trend and little else, because I just can't see it making the knife more functional. I don't even like Strider and I would still rather have an SMF over one of these overbuilt Ti frame locks.

I wish I could like Cold Steel, I'd like to get really familiar with the Demko lock. Unfortunately, they don't offer a single knife that I find aesthetically pleasing.

I wish I could like Emerson, its a great American company with an awesome patent (the wave) and several of their knives look bada** but none of them are anything i would carry, even if they were cheaper they just dont do it for me. The only product they have I would even want to own would be a karambit fixed blade and at >$250 it will be a long time before it makes its way to the top of my list.

Well, I finally found a BM I liked. It's a little two-bladed trapper under their H-D line, with a locking main blade, and a bottle-cap lifter. :D

DPx...

I'd love to get one of their folders to just beat the living piss out of but I will never buy anything with his initials on it, or anything he designed, makes money from or is related to.

Spyderco. I'm just talking from an aesthetic point of view.... They leave me dead cold, which is too bad because I'm sure their legions of fans that talk about them so much have very good reasons.

The big issue that prevents me from branching out to try a lot of knife designs is knife size and weight. I'm a short guy and my hands are a size -"small", so a lot of knives I'd love to own are immediately discounted because they're too big or heavy for me to comfortably carry. I'd love to own ZTs, Hogues, Cold Steels, larger sized Benchmades, and Emersons, but it's always a challenge finding smaller designs that appeal to me.

Besides that, I have immense respect for Spyderco and what they have done for the knife industry, but most of their knife designs don't do it for me. But I am learning to appreciate their function-over-form mindset, and I actually just preordered a Paramilitary 2.

I really wish I could get over my stupid prejudice against knives made in Taiwan. I own a couple, but very rarely carry them. There are a few newer Spydercos that are right up my alley, but I know I won't warm up to them because of where they were made.

Quite idiotic, I know. But it's not a rational thing.

I don't really 'not like' Benchmade, but I haven't come across a model that called out to me over the many other brands on my want list.

I'm the opposite of the OP. I love my Spyderco knives, and keep buying Benchmades hoping to find one that will tickle my fancy, but I can't so I always sell them. I did buy my father a Griptilian though and he swears it is the greatest folder in the history of mankind. Maybe I need a Grip...

I want to like those $.99 knives at Walmart! If I loved cheap steel and loose blades and God awful handles my bank account might actually have money in it!

I wish I felt the same about my pm2 as many do, it's an ok knife but I tend to find myself using my endura 4 ffg much more.

Had to chime in after reading your statement. I have found a somewhat local knife store just over the river in Northern Kentucky. Now I can actually handle many knives I have only heard about. The first one I wanted to handle was the Para2. I just didn't get it. But everyone is different. They even let me walk around the store and look at other knives to give me time to handle and flip it. I don't know. Did absolutely nothing for me. But that's the great thing about knives, there are plenty of them out there, just have to find the one that grabs you. Never owned a BM either. I do now, picked up the Contego, not bad.:-)

Production companies nowadays make so many different styles in different sizes it's hard to imagine someone couldn't find even one model that suits them from a particular make.
However, I think ZT is missing the small and sleek EDC market. I know their theme is kinda tough and overbuilt, but seeing as Kershaw is being swept overseas, there is a lack of highend small/sleek knives coming from KAI nowadays. Just my $.02.

zt for it's bulkiness and larger blades aren't my cup of tea. neither is the assisted opening.

I've gotta say, I really wanted to like Emerson knives as well, but I just couldn't get used to having the chisel grind. Spyderco Endura/Delica series don't quite do it for me either with their lockback/FRN... but the Para2 is a keeper for me. Really wanted to like Emersons because of the man and the idea behind them, and if I liked the Endura I'd be saving myself a helluva lot of money... but I just couldn't...

Got to handle an Emerson for the first time, the 15. Gotta say it felt great in my hand and looked really nice and opened smoothly. I've read the stories on the gritty opening etc. etc. If you can handle the knife before buying, makes all the difference in the world. Now I can touch just about any knife I want. Incredible! Now, if some of them had a CM wave installed:D
