With these wants – What’s My Knife?

One of the knives that has given me the most pleasure in recent years is the elegantly simple Sanrenmu 704. It has recently been discontinued, so the price has crept up to $18.50. I would happily pay that much or more for the fresh design, quality steel/HT and super smooth function. It appears to be the correct size as well.

As was highly recommended over on the Spyderco forum the Chaparral and Dragonfly fit the bill very nicely. Since you were asking in a Spyderco specific forum I didn't bother to suggest other knives but glad a few have already mentioned the HK Mini Axis made by Benchmade. I bought one of these recently from exchange and it really is a nice little knife. Very smooth and solid feeling. My only complaint is that it's a little short even with medium sized hands. It feels as though it needs a finger choil so you can choke up on it. This is where the Dragonfly and Chaparral really excel.

A finger choil would be a definite enhancement to the Mini Axis for those with medium large-ish hands. They give you some jimping for your thumb on the spine which is nice... but even a small finger notch would really allow you to get down and dirty with the small work. Perfect size for somebody with small hands, though.

Still, the Mini Axis is a hell of a package for the price, at least in my book. Deep carry clip is gonna improve it a bunch too.
