Greetings all,
Certainly the maker needs no introduction to bowie fans - Don has been turning out some of the VERY best carbon steel and damascus bowies for some time now. And this fine example could be yours.
This knife was purchased directly from Don at the 2010 Little Rock show. It features a 12 1/2" blade of random damascus, with a shimmering wolftooth-like overlay. That latter aspect won't show up in a photo - but let the light play along the length of the blade on either side and you will see exactly what I mean. Overall length is 17 3/4". Completing the package is a terrific sheath by best-in-the-business Paul Long.
A signature element of this knife is the singularly spectacular piece of amber stag - just a perfect piece for a knife like this - super dense, with wonderful texture and colour. You can walk into any major knife show and buy a bag full of spectacular ivory (and Don generally does) - but stag this nice? A LOT harder to find.
A relatively unique element on a Hanson knife - and something I really like here - is the damascus butt cap.
Not many makers can execute a BIG bowie as well as this in terms of both aesthetics and ergonomics. The graceful swedge, running half the length of the spine from the tip, gives the blade a sense of motion even when static. The blade handles great as well - balancing about 2" ahead of the guard.
This knife is offered at - US$WITHDRAWN includes shipping within the US / Canada, AND Paypal (vastly preferred), AND the wonderful Paul Long Sheath, AND a padded, zippered case. Shipping overseas to a fellow forumite can be arranged but it will be at additional cost and it is pricey.
If you're familiar with the pricing of Don's bowies, then you know this is a solid - scratch that - SCREAMING - deal. If you're not familiar, ask someone who is.
I'm happy to answer questions, but the first "I'll take it!" by e-mail or PM will have this wonderful piece delivered to their door.
Thanks for taking the time to look and read.
Roger
PS - one more pic to show that this stag is just as delicious on the opposite side:
