WNY Gathering 2012

The shop projects get heat treated tomorrow and then I start tempering. Should be fun to do. Doug

Soooo, is this a "trade blanket" or more of a "give away blanket" ???:confused::confused: :D

While I've never done a trade blanket, I always pictured it as a situation where both parties walk away satisfied. Items are added to the trade until everyone agrees that it's "a good deal."

Like the pearl trade scene in "Papillon," but nobody gets his throat cut. :D

I just assumed it was a barter situation like John said. I'm going to do a thread search, and If I'm not satisfied, I'll post up a question.

eta: I found a thread in the Becker forum from last year asking the same question. This seems to be the consensus:

Everyone with items to trade lays out their own blanket and puts what they are looking to trade on it.
Then people walk around and look at each others stuff and make trade offers and exchanges.

Thats pretty much it.

ONLY one more week to wait. It all starts next Saturday. I am off this coming week and will be doing some cleaning, getting the grass cut and general work to ready for the weekend. Hope to see you there. Doug

Breakfast is on me for Sat, Sun & Mon. Loaded scrambled eggs it is (as Never Too Sharp suggested).

Picked up today
3 lbs of Bob Evans Maple Sausage
3 pkgs of home fries
3 pkgs of diced onions
3 lbs of cheddar cheese
3 doz eggs
And of course, the 4 lbs of bacon, for CaptAiryca.

I figure 1 doz eggs & 1 lb each of all the others ought to make a good breakfast, for each of the 3 days, yes ?

Boy I sure hope we get a good turn out or we will be eating breakfast for a week. Thanks Mike. You did not have to get that much stuff. See you there. Doug

No big deal. I like to help out, i like to eat good & i like to cook. Triple win for me, bonus for those that show up. If we don't get that many, no big deal, thats what freezers are for ! LOL :D

Hoping to give those who are on the fence about showing up, just that little extra incentive to show up ! :D

What a fun time! It was really nice to meet everyone and making the knife handles was fantastic! A special thank you to Doug!! Hope to see you all again soon!

Handling those knives was a great idea. Big thanks to Doug for all the time, work and materials he put into the project. I'll post a pic of mine when the patina is done.

Nice and dark vinegar patina.

You are all welcome I will have to try to top that for next year

Well It is over for another year. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. A HUGE thanks to Toooj for sharing his wealth of information and bringing us a huge selection of Becker's and Ka- Bars to purchase.

Doug---been using the heck outta those knives you made that we put handles on. They seem to get sharper every time i touch them up. Thanks again.

Mike

Looks like a good time was had.
I'll have to keep my eyes out for this next year. I live in CNY but it's not too far a trip. Actually went to college down the street from you in Geneseo.

Well, it's almost that time again. Any word on the dates for 2013 WNY Gathering ? Will there even be one this year ? Inquiring minds want to know ? Toooj needs to know (I think the newly released BK10's will be a hit this year---HINT-HINT-HINT). I need to know---in order to put in for time off, so i can attend.

Thanks
Mike.
