Thanks for sharing the photos guys, looks like everyone had fun!
John, ancient Polynesians used wood, stone and bone for hooks, they had no steel till contact with Europeans. A couple of ways they got bone and wood hooks to stay down was tying small oblong rocks to the shank, or notching the bottom of the hook and attaching small rocks. I think you could do the same with some small lead sinker weights.
Good luck and keep us informed, primitive fishing has always fascinated me. You wouldn't believe what the ancient Polynesians could catch on similar rigs 100lb+ Tuna, 40lb+Ulua all hand reeled.
