Women and Knives: Why More Women Need To Carry A Blade

I've seen countless people looking down the bore, of empty firearms to inspect the condition. They put a bit of white paper in the breech, shine a light and go to town inspecting the bore. Nothing to joke around about, but they do it all the time, to inspect the bore.

We all know that's not what she was doing.

Maybe we should all have inappropriate gun handling avatars to make a point that we have the constitutional right to express ourselves how we want.

Does that include those of us who see something wrong and point it out? And just for the record, the First Amendment protects you from government infringement.

RULE I: TREAT ALL GUNS AS IF THEY ARE ALWAYS LOADED

RULE II: NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DESTROY

RULE III: KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET AND YOU ARE READY TO SHOOT

RULE IV: BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

A few adjustments in red.

These are gun-handling rules. There are times when the rules cannot be followed 100%. For example, when the gun is in a holster, rule #2 is probably broken from time to time. When purchasing a gun, you can take it apart partially and look down the barrel. When in an awkward position you may need to cross your body to draw your pistol. When in a group or multi-story building, you can never be sure about rule 2. (ETC ETC ETC). It is when multiple rules are broken that bad things are most prone to happen. Still, it is important to make following these rules a habit.

Wait.....pointing out facts about how the constitution works? Now you are just a wannabe Mod ;)

Thanks for the correction. I copy/pasted from another source mainly because I feel that rule #1 should be that all guns are always loaded, but you are absolutely correct that some instances may cause a person to bend a rule, but posting "jokes" shouldn't be one of them.
As far as some insisting on privately correcting a person, I call shenanigans. Not only is safety everyone's business, but also a matter of life and death.

Don't look down the barrel of a gun.

Not even if you're just fooling around taking silly pictures. If you're in the mood to fool around I suggest putting away the guns. You could fool around blowing bubbles, or have a pillow fight or something.

By the way, one of the characteristics of the Daisy Red Ryder 650 shot magazine is no matter how sure you are you've unloaded it, there can still be a BB in there.

I think the whole idea of it was that it was a STUPID idea... it was a joke (as we were all posting the stupidist things people could do w guns photos) for a gun site I was on... it was supposed to be DUMB.

Reminds me when I was a kid and my cousins were visiting. One of my cousins came to me to tell on her little brother, "He picked up your cat and threw him across the room -- like this!" and she picked up my cat and threw him across the room.

I was inspecting a single action revolver (I'm used to double action revolvers.) at a store. I bought that revolver. After I verified that it was unloaded I prceeded to look down the barrel as best I could with my little flashlight. I was too lazy to take the cylinder out, but I can honestly say.... I was EMBARRASSED after I thought about what I just did because I am all about reasonable gun safety. Knives.... well, we will all get cut at some point if we handle knives, but normally it is not likely to be life threatening.

Every time that we touch a gun, we are forming habits. It is ideal for us to do everything that is humanly possible in order to form the correct habits. It makes us more effective gunmen/ gunwomen.

We have to remember that guns are things we may potentially be involved in a homicide with. In such a case, we will probably be more satisfied if our actions were intentional rather than accidental. There are people out there who are missing family members and close friends because they did not have good gun-handling habits.

You can identify a serious shooter by handing them a squirt-gun and watching how they keep their finger high and safe off the trigger and how they are reluctant to point the squirt-gun at people. Those are probably going to be good people to shoot with.

This is the General KNIFE discussion forum. It is not a personal blog or the place to discuss gun safety or how your constitutional rights apply to a privately owned forum (they don't). Some of you have posted some blatantly stupid things in this thread and, if we see any more of it in General, you will get smacked. This is closed.
